Perfect and quit new looking apartment. Close to restaurants and only a few minutes from the center. Its a peaceful location without noise. A very warm welcome from the host and there was water, fruit and Raki in the cooler. Perfect welcome.

To summarize: It's the perfect home away from home when staying in Ohrid. 

The full story will be quite long but I'll take the time to write it down, because it deserves to be written out in full. 

We've arrived in Ohrid early in the morning after a ~ 10hr drive, haven't booked in advance since we're spontaneous travelers, drank our first coffee around 8 AM and then booked the apartment via booking.com app. It mentioned a check-in time of 14.00hrs so we decided to wait a bit. 
Around 12.30hrs we've made contact with Stefan, the owner of the apartment, there were a bit of language troubles but he solved them by involving a nice lady that could translate, it turned out our reservation hasn't come to his attention yet, no blame here since not everyone is hovering their emails like myself. He promised to come to the apartment at 13.00hrs and indeed he did - on the minute. 
Turned out he wanted to make sure everything was perfect so he offered to bring us to one of his other apartments for an hour so we could relax and freshen up while he made sure the one we booked was neat and clean to his standards. 
He drove us to another apartment where we relaxed for an hour and he sent a SMS 5 minutes before picking us up again to bring us back to the initial apartment that we've booked. 

His wife greeted us as we've walked in and he helped carry our luggage up (we've booked the 2nd story apartment), took quick snaps of our ID cards, showed us the apartment, we've chatted a bit and he left us the keys so we could get some sleep.

During the chat we talked about places to shop, especially for fresh veggies - they gave us a map of the city and marked some places to shop, visit - the works. 

Next day we went for a quick walk by the lake and returned to surprise gifts: Fresh grilled corn on the cob, fresh tomatoes and grapes all from their own garden - HEAVEN! That was such a nice gesture, we really appreciated it!

Saturday it was agreed that they would stop by, clean the apartment, change sheets and the towels, they arrived right on the agreed time, we had a bit of a chat and later went out together to eat a special Macedonian treat, a special kind of Ohrid cake and a drink from fermented wheat, yummy, but fair warning, that cake is heavy on the stomach!

All too soon came the day of our departure and that also went smooth as everything before then, we paid in cash and added a little extra for their efforts and their amazing service and for making us feel so welcome. 

If you haven't figured it out by now, we 100% recommend this apartment, get it if you can, you will not regret it :-)

Home away from Home

We stayed at Apartments Elena for 7 nights. The apartments are located about a 10 minute walk for all the shops and main street. However there are plenty of restaurants located where the apartment is so you don’t have to walk far. Also the apartment is set back from the road so we did have a view of the lake but it wasn’t the best.
 
We had the ground floor two bedroom apartment. There was a spacious lounge with a dining table, and a small kitchen that had everything you need especially if you are eating out most nights. There was also a spacious courtyard outside. The main bedroom had plenty of room with cupboard space and the second bedroom had two bunk beds with cupboards.
 
Like most places in Macedonia it was a bit rough around the edges however the apartment was clean and had everything we wanted.
 
The biggest let down of this apartment was the bathroom as it was tiny. If you are a bigger person you may struggle to use this bathroom.
 
My recommendation to the owners is to remove the oversized sink and replace this with a smaller rectangle sink which will give you more room to use the toilet. Also I would recommend them to install a shower head holder so that you could hang the shower head if you wanted to, and some towels hooks on the door as there was nowhere to hang your shower towels.
 
TIP
There is no reception here so you will need to arrange to meet the owners/ managers to pick up and drop off the keys at the apartment. Also make sure you have local currency to pay as they cannot process credit cards. They will accept Euro and other currency but it will be easier with the local. Unfortunately they did not advise us of this when we picked up the keys so we did not have the money ready.
 
Recommendation
Would I recommend this to family & friends? Depends on your needs. I would if they imporved the bathroom as this made our stay a little less comfortable.
 
Would I stay here again? I would if they imporved the bathroom.

Ground Floor Two Bedroom Review

We have stayed in many places in Ohrid and this is by far the best. We recommend it highly. We stayed in a ground floor apartment which had everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay including an outside terrace and a fully equipped kitchen. The owners were accommodating and helpful. The apartment was clean, modern and comfortable for a small family. The location is very central, it is quiet and slightly set back from the main road, but you still get a lake view. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable!

Home from home

This is a hidden gem.  Very clean and modern with an excellent price.  Stephan was very accommodating and the apartment had everything you would need to make your trip wonderful.  We enjoyed our time here.
