The manager at this hotel will fulfill your stay..I will be back next year for the 4th time.. probably every year..My brother had an amazing wedding here.. and the staff is excellent <3 Im Canadian from Toronto Canada and this is too nice..<3

SiyaGo Online Travel Services organized my stay in Ethiopia: tigray and lake area. He chose what to show me, the stops, the hotels and much more: all very nice and very well organized, punctual in the schedules, guides chosen with care and attention. Unfortunately all in English, which does not always make communication easy. Rates in line with other operators, a bit expensive, but really worth it. I highly recommend it!

My clients enjoyed their stay at Desta International Hotel. They enjoyed the service, the room amenities, the hospital staff were so helpful and location is also great. They also enjoyed both the local and continental breakfast.

Per our itinerary, we were supposed to stay at a different hotel, but somehow ended up here.  I'm glad, based on the reviews and photos of guests posted for the other hotel.  This hotel had spacious rooms that were very clean and nice bathrooms.  The staff was friendly and helpful.

This is the best hotel in mekelle. As i want to use a good wifi and need to spend my time in mekelle, i use this hotel and it was wonderful. The waiters are so graceful and  has give you a nice smile. I recomend to visit this wonderful hotel.

The Hotel has a posh feel to it, the check in went smooth. The room was massive - with a seperate closed balcony part to sit in, which was very nice. Also a small balcony was there. Standard of the room was good, and the size of the bathroom again was large. There isn't a lot to see in walking distance, but a taxi was quickly found. Dinner and breakfast did we have in the Hotel, which was fine, nothing Special. All in all, happy to return and stay here

We went twice to that hotel, on our way to Aksum and on our way back. The hotel is located a bit outside the center, not far from the university. The place is quiet. We got a double bedroom, which was perfect for us with two kids (incl a baby). We brought our baby bed and asked for an additional bed for our daughter. The room was spacious, everything working. A generator in case of electricity cut while using the elevator. Shower had plentiful of hot water and pressure. We recommend the hotel warmly

Enjoying Great time in desta international Hotel

This is a relatively new hotel. As with many hotels in Ethiopia, it exhibits signs of the build and forget philosophy. That's to be expected. But there are around 10 light switches in the room where the only lights are above the bed (controlled by a very temporary dimmer - not working - hanging from the headboard). There is just one power outlet by the bed, but nothing anywhere near the work desk which makes the (broken) desk lamp a piece of window dressing with no practical use. Getting an extension cable was quite a task and even then not long enough. There is a kettle and tea/coffee - great but again no power outlet other than the one on the floor on the other side of the room.
The toilet is a large American style model but the seat is standar small so nowhere near fits. The shower has gel and shampoo dispensers - empty. Which is why they provide massive quantities of giveaway gel, shampoo tubes, razors, combs, toothbrushes...
There is a long list of hotel contact internal phone numbers, but the phone doesn't work.
The enclosed balcony room has a sofa and a low table, but no power outlets and no lighting.
WARNING: I booked with Expedia. They denied knowledge of the reservation on my arrival and said they never completed registration with Expedia. Had I prepaid, they would have declined to honour the prepayment.

On the plus side, the staff are charming and obliging. They obviously lack professional direction. Contrary to reviews I have read, I've yet to see any other non-Ethiopian guest.

Seemingly modern but many annoyances

The rooms are spacious and have comfortable bed. Unfortunately my room was on the highway side and there was distrurbing sounds in early morning. Breakfast is basic limited options. I liked there pasta but the pissa was not good. If I have to stay here again I will selected rooms at higher floor and bath rooms not having disturbing door.

Staff so polite good property

I can't imagine why anyone writes a good review of this hotel: it is old and neglected: the carpeting is threadbare, things were falling off the walls everywhere, furniture was broken, our bathroom leaked all over the floor, and one of the room doors wouldn't even lock. The lobby looks OK, but don't let that fool you. This is a 1-2 star in the U.S.  It needs to be closed and renovated. The only thing good here is that the staff was nice and tried their best, but it was a losing proposition. There had to be something better in this city.
