Dalat Note Hostel

Great hostel, great host of Hieu and his brother. It was an amazing stay, food tour, family dinner, travel booking, karaoke. It's the best hostel in Vietnam and really nice to stay at a hostel with owners that really care about their business.

I stayed at Da Late Note Hostel for three nights in March 2019. It is located less than 20 minutes walk from the town centre. I had trouble finding the hostel because Google Maps does not recognise the small side street on which the hostel is located.

My first impressions were that it was a charming little hostel. It is decorated in a quirky fashion with lots of nick nacks. When I checked in, I was required to leave my passport with the owner. I didn’t pay a deposit for anything. 

I spent two nights in an eight bed dorm. The dorm doesn’t have privacy curtains, but has some cute netted curtains between the bottom bunks. The beds were very comfortable and the sheets are the best smelling sheets I have ever had in life! I had come from staying in a tent in Mui Ne, so I really enjoyed my sleep at this hostel. Da Lat is cold compared to cities in south Vietnam, so snuggling up to the massive fluffy sweet smelling blankets at night was lovely.

For my last night at the hostel, the owner said I could stay in a private room for the same price as a dorm. I went out for the day and came back at 15.00 dreading having to move all my belongings to my new room. To my delight, I found that he had moved everything for me!! He probably did this to prepare the bed for the next guests. Nothing was missing and he had arranged it nicely in my new room. I was very grateful for this and gave him a hug to say thanks!

Towels were not offered to me, but I was given one for no charge when I asked for one. There are some small lockers outside the dorm rooms. They are not big enough for a backpack, but were sufficient for valuables. 

Breakfast was included but I didn’t wake up early enough for it. I know that bread, peanut butter and tea is provided for the breakfast. 

There are bathrooms on each floor of the hostel with a sink just outside them. There were two showers in each bathroom, so you can try both decide which shower you prefer. The showers provided hot water. There was always toilet roll in the bathrooms. One issue was that the sinks were a bit dirty. They would benefit from being cleaned more often. 

The owners of the hostel invited my friends and I to a home cooked meal on one of the evenings for 60,000VD. They served vegetable noodles, chicken, meat spring rolls, vegetable spring rolls, cabbage, soup, tofu and rice. I was very happy to be feed home cooked food. It was much nicer than any food I had eaten in Vietnam at restaurants and cafes. 

Apart from the “Family Dinner”, the hostel doesn’t offer any food. It does sell alcoholic drinks and water though. They don’t offer water refills. 
The hostel is reasonable social. 

I didn’t enquire as to whether the hostel offers laundry service or tours of Da Lat. My friend was able to book a bus through them though. The bus picked her up from a neighbouring street. 

The hostel has many games and sources of entertainment: two guitars, a drum, a darts board, jenga and cards. 

I was only going to rate this hostel 4/5, but I MUST give it a 5/5 simply because of how nice, friendly, helpful and kind the owners of the hostel are. I was made to feel welcome. Ninh, his wife and daughter are beautiful people. Ninh even showed us how he made coffee from coffee beans in his kitchen!! He was a lovely guy.

I made a mistake and forgot to book a hostel when we got in from our overnight bus. Luc woke up and let us into the hostel at 6 am without a reservation. He gave great advice on what to do and see and personally cooked everyone’s breakfast. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The hostel itself was nice, but I’m very thankful for Luc and all his help.

We spent a couple of days in Dalat, while travelling to the north of Vietnam. We stopped in this beautiful hostel and it turned out to be a great idea.
This place is so comfortable and Ninh is an amazing guy. All the staff is super reliable and kind and his breakfast is for champion! whatever you need, you’ll find a solution! Absolutely recommended, great atmosphere, definitely come back.

We absolutely loved this hostel. We only stayed two nights but we felt so at home and part of the family. We were gutted when it was time to leave. 

The staff were fantastic. Ninh (the owner) was especially passionate and we loved watching him roast his own coffee beans (grown in his garden) and learning about how he does it. You have to try his espresso martinis... delicious!! You can also buy his coffee to take home! 

We had dinner with all of the staff both evenings. They made a feast for us! It was a lovely opportunity to experience some Vietnamese culture and chat to new people. They even played live music for us after our food and got everyone singing along.. amazing memories!

Don't usually wright reviews but this place is worth it! My self and a friend intended to stay just one night here.  as soon as we arrived the staff (Bi) was so welcoming and helpful, It felt like a home away from home, so we stayed an extra few nights. The hostel is full of creativity and always has a nice atmosphere. Da lat it self was very cold for us so be sure to bring warm clothes! Also the coffee is amazing. You get free breakfast. (Eggs and a roll) pretty basic but still nice. 

you should read this before considering to stay here. It's not hostel anymore. This is home where i could throw all sorts of frustration to share happiness in life with everyone in here. Be careful with the staff, they will make you cry with joys and belly-laugh because of their sense of humor. You might fall in love with them at the first sight on account of their talented guitar playing. Especially, Mr. Bao and Mr. Hai, since their kindness touched my heart. Even when i told them, i just had a tight budget, they tried to help me a lots to save money during my trip.Every night they laboriously make family dinner for the guests with various of traditional Vietnamese foods, really really nice!  I profoundly appreciated what all of staff in Note hostel did for me. Thank you anyway!

Dalat Note Hostel was one of the best places I stayed during my trip in Vietnam. I really felt like a family and the 'family diner' was amazing. The Hostel is not that big what makes it so nice. Breakfast is really good, and the cocktails also. Arranging different tours like a canyoning tour went without problems. And they even offered to dry my clothes afterwards since we had to leave the next morning.

Fantastic Stay

I arrived in Da Lat at 3:30am following arrival for the overnight sleeper bus. We chose this hostel because it advertised a 24 hour reception however when we arrived the hostel was fully locked and no one was answering our knocks. A sign on the door said to call a number which we did multiple times and still got no response. Luckily we found another phone number shown online and managed to contact the hostel worker who was asleep.

When we got let in we were taken to the smallest dorm I have ever seen. Whilst the beds were large the bedding was essentially a large blanket and was very uncomfortable.

In the morning we were woken at 6am by hostel guests shouting, screaming and playing loud music on their phones. Whilst this isn't the hostels fault it seems like it's the sort of people it attracts. 

We were then unable to shower as there was just 1 shower between 16 people. So we tried to check out straight away to find somewhere else but when we got to the front desk, again there were no staff around so we had to wait for 20 minutes before we could pay anyone and leave this rubbish hostel.
