A year ago I had the pleasure of staying for a month in Posada Picasso and I can only confirm the adjacent contended comments.
As a seasoned traveller working worldwide as a mechanical design engineer for more than 30 years,I have-talking of hotels-seen it all,for good and worse,I think.And it´s all about good old decency and trustworthyness,which You will-together with their unearthly kindness- meet there, and which should ascertain a pleasant,fulfilling stay.
Not to mention the art- and tastefull remodeling of the entire building including interiour and inventory over the later years-I have stayed there intermittently since 1995.So thumbs up for Verner&staff.    The Dane

Posada Picasso is not a 5-star hotel it self, but we were SOOO comfortable here, mostly because of the excellent service, we've never been treated this good, even at 4-5 star hotels. You wont find a more friendly and helpful englishspeaking (this was very important for us since we dont speak spanish, and very few here in Margarita speaks english) owner/manager anywhere. That being said, the location is also absolutely perfect, you have the beach right in front of the hotel, and the shopping street is also only a few  hundred meters away, so what more can you ask for? The hotel also had hot water, tv, refridgerator, free wi-fi and laundry service. Plus its cheap. We would come back without doubt.

I stayed at this place (which is called posada picasso now) for 1 week. The employees are very friendly and the rooms are clean and fully equipped with Sat-TV, aircond., free WiFi and refrigerator. The beach is just a view steps away and I enjoyed the restaurant "rancho de pablo" which has an exellent staff and high quality meals. 
I really can highly recommend this place! I'll be back soon!

I'll get the cons out of the way: renos on the rooms were still going on and you're getting the basics in the rooms compared to the rest of the hotel. They don't take credit cards etc but they do use paypal and of course they take US currency. Now, onto the pros...

The staff were awesome, helpful (speak English), friendly and went out of their way to make me and my friend get settled. If you're not familiar with the black market currency exchange on the island, they are pretty accurate and honest about rates and realities. This was the best place we came across for wifi and they make a mean cappucino, if you're looking for some familiar comforts. From the street, the hotel looks inconspicuous... high priced hotels one direction and low income housing on the other. The staff again, were security conscious and took some simple but effective precautions.

The location was otherwise ideal, like the other reviews point out. You'd be paying much more for the same view anywhere else. They didn't have a restaurant or bar when we were there but sold cheap beer in their namesake-themed common area. You're a few blocks from one of the major shopping areas in Porlamar (one of the few areas on the island where things are still open on Sundays)...had no luck with restaurants but street vendors were decent. 

These guys make this hotel exceptional. If you're an art or design fan, you'll at least appreciate the details and work they've put in so far. If you're like us and missing real coffee, this place was an oasis.

The posada is not a 5* hotel itself - frankly speaking some restoration work would be necessary and nice - but it is clean, correct and very secure... The location is perfect, it is close to everything.
As a hotel professional for about 40 years in Hungary, I can tell you that the biggest value of this 
posada is the managing, operational people ! 
One of them is a German man, the other one is a Dutch man. Both of them are excellent,they speak German and English, they are very helpful giving all sorts of necessary informations, what you need. These informations are always correct, you can trust them. 
I can recommend this small hotel to anybody.
