Good vibes, run by helpful hippie locals, great location, very close to the city center, absolutely great place for backpackers! I met great people here, and gonna remember this beautiful atmosphere for the rest of my life!

Great place for what you pay

I didn't like this place much. It's a stoner hostel and verging on the squalid. The beds aren't very good, and the kitchen is small and grubby. However, the worst thing was that I booked on the basis that they accepted cards but they then only accepted Visa and not MasterCard (which they hadn't specified). This led to a whole palaver of the manager making me schlepp to the supermarket with him to buy goods to the value of my stay. I wouldn't have minded had he asked nicely, but he didn't. I moved to a much nicer and cheaper hostel just round the corner.

A bit grotty and with a poor attitude

The bathroom was clean as long as the guests contributed to it, the staff helped me with a couple of paperwork with the tickets and there was a good atmosphere.

A good stay at home.

One of the things I like the most about La Tatucera is that it has no television. I also like that it has no bar and it does not sell beer like many or even most hostels do these days.

The owners wanted to create a place where people would meet and talk to each other, which is one of the main reasons for hostels, in my opinion.

It is a very clean place. It has a nice roof top area and a good breakfast. It was also a good price when I stayed there, about 2 dollars less than most hostels in Montevideo. It was 14 dollars when I stayed there. 

Since I live in Uruguay and travel to Montevideo often, I plan to be back again. 

It is also a quite place compared to many hostels. I slept well both nights I was there. One of the owners, Pablo, and I spoke a little about the importance of having a quiet place. He appreciates the importance of this. He even has a sign that says Please talk, but don't yell.

I think I met all 4 of the co-owners, Pablo, Claudia, Nathalia and Mariana if I remember correctly. They were all interesting to talk to and we seemed to share a lot of values and beliefs about life, education, society etc. For example, creating a more humane, sustainable, and less violent world.

Real Hostel Atmosphere

I stayed here for two nights. The people were very nice and the location is good. However, the breakfast is very sparse compared to other hostels in Uruguay and the rooms are also not optimal. They are all in the main hallway and it is always loud and bright.
