Fitch Hill Inn

Fitch Hill Inn was the lodging option we chose for our little Central Vermont getaway during these crazy times, and boy, did we stumble upon a gem! Perfectly located a short drive north on VT100 from Stowe, the Inn is the ideal launchpad for day trips across Central, Northern and Western Vermont. Dating back to 1797, It is one of the earliest properties that was built in the unassuming little town of Hyde Park, and still retains much of the old structure and foundation, though it has been maintained in a top notch shape by the owners over time. The owners and Innkeepers (John and Julie) have invested their invaluable time and talents to upgrade it.. including handmade dining tables in the room where they serve mouth-watering breakfasts made to order with love and care! Their little touches are all over the inn - like Julie’s intricate quilts, and John’s remarkable woodwork, and their exquisite antiques collection that they have acquired over the years. It is part of what makes staying in the inn so special - the whole building and everything inside it is a labor of love, and it makes you feel privileged to be able to experience the history and striking beauty of the inn first hand. The stay was perfect in every way, right from the pre-trip communication to local tips, to the room, and the breakfast. The excellent Covid precautions were noteworthy, and we felt as safe as in our own home. Masks are mandatory outside if the room/suite, with no exceptions and they have made significant changes - for example, instead of pouring coffee into guests’ cups, they have a pot of coffee for each guest at breakfast. Also, they serve just two couples at a time for breakfast, in a fairly large room that can accommodate 12 guests normally. Since it was after the end of the foliage season, we were the only guests staying in the inn, so we felt extra safe! Though the facilities, like amazing victorian beds, the common room, the little shared kitchenette are all good, what made this stay special was the heart-warming hospitality extended by John and Julie! With masks on, and at a distance, we had many enriching conversations with them, as they shared glimpses of their inspiring life in the military, and the decision to buy this inn and settle in Vermont. The gourmet breakfasts at the inn were very memorable and a fine example of their outstanding hospitality, and the warm, freshly baked cookies every day was the icing on the cake. The booking experience on the website and the clear description of each room was a clear winner (along with the price) when I decided to book here. I am glad I did, and encourage everyone who are looking to stay in central VT to consider this gem of a B&B which captures the essence of Vermont in every way!
