Hotel Macomber

I never write reviews, but I felt compelled after the wonderful time we had during our first stay in July that we decided to return in December—and it was just as magical. The hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas, creating such a warm and festive atmosphere. One of our favorite spots was the cozy fireplace, perfect for relaxing before and after dinner. From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond, being so kind, outgoing, and eager to help with every whim, they even provided wine glasses. Their hospitality truly made our stay extra special. Our room on the top floor had the most amazing view, and watching the sunrise from there was breathtaking. The bed was very comfortable for someone with chronic back pain, and the water pressure and temperature in the shower were perfect, which isn’t always the case in older buildings. Speaking of the building, it’s a charming, historic gem that’s over 100 years old, so it comes with quirks—like no elevator. However, they made this very clear during booking, in the confirmation, and even in the reminder email. The front desk receptionist kindly helped us with our luggage, which was greatly appreciated. The on-site restaurant Union Park is BYOB (as are most in Cape May, we discovered) and serves delicious meals. In the morning, we enjoyed amazing coffee and breakfast at Bagel Time, just downstairs. Both places are independently owned, so meals aren’t included in your stay, but they’re worth it! This hotel is a true treasure, and we love its historic charm. It seems some reviewers forget it’s an older building and expect modern amenities, but we found it to be a wonderful escape from the ordinary. We had such a lovely stay and have already rebooked for next year! Highly recommend!
