Checked into the Peninsula Beverly Hills on a sunny afternoon, entering an experience defined by invisible excellence combined with California warmth. The location of the hotel, the proactive service philosophy and the attention to detail from leadership on down were all core elements of an excellent stay. On arrival, Rebecca greeted me with great cheer and displayed excellent advanced knowledge about the context of my stay and my preferences. Marcelo worked with her to show great attentiveness and ensured that all details were attended to. Finally, Logan showed me to the suite and ensured that I was familiar with the property. The suite was spacious, well equipped, and an excellent welcome amenity was laid out for my arrival. Little details were sorted out well, and my interactions with housekeeping showcased splendid professionalism. Every request was fulfilled with speed and thoroughness. In room and on premises dining were all top notch. From breakfast to midnight pork shumai, everything was tasty and satiating. The gym was well equipped and Dillon at the pool did a fantastic job making sure our party had all that we needed. Location, of course, is a key asset of this hotel - close to everything you need to get to in the zone, not too far from the beach club in Santa Monica and all the other places, people and things that one needs to access. California is a place firmly rooted in the now and the future - where the hallowed past is often so much set dressing, the now is a muddled work in progress and the future a continuously rewritten storyboard. Quoth Joan Didion, "California is a place in which a boom mentality and a sense of Chekhovian loss meet in uneasy suspension; in which the mind is troubled by some buried but ineradicable suspicion that things better work here, because here, beneath the immense bleached sky, is where we run out of continent." The Peninsula Beverly Hills is one of those places where things work, and do so exceedingly well. Rebecca’s team brought their A game and showed us an excellent time, demonstrating a level of hospitality that is uncommon in this country or elsewhere. If you want a stay that’s very in the city and yet far from hustle and bustle, this is your place.
