The Old Rectory

Went to enjoy North Yorkshire Moors and Dales without thinking too much about the accommodation. Really pleased with our choice - which really added to the whole experience - as even the dog was friendly and greeted us warmly with a smile (honest) every time he saw us. Hosts, room and breakfast all great. Couldn’t do enough to make our stay great - without being intrusive. We wish them well for the future. Thanks

A nice and bright room for breakfast with a good choice of options on the menu

We had a very enjoyable overnight stay at this bed and breakfast and had a really large bedroom ovelooking the garden with a really large and modern ensuite. The breakfast was really good with very fresh food and plenty of it.  This is very convenient if you are touring North Yorkshire but not particularly well situated if you wish to visit York, as we did, as this is nearly 20 miles away and the park and ride over 10 miles away.  A uber taxi quoted 24 pounds to take us into York. We had a really good meal in the Calton Inn and my husband said the steak pie was the best he has had.

Stayed 2 nights here with my fiancé. The place is run by a couple, Paul and Rachael, who are very welcoming and give the place a very homely feel.

The rooms were fully kitted out with a tea service, TV, WiFi, regional information and magazines. There’s also an option for DVD’s. The bathroom was very modern with molten brown toiletries and a fantastic shower. 

Breakfast is served 8-9, and it’s a good spread with cereals, juices, muesli, and a cooked breakfast to order which was well prepared and tasty, with the eggs being provided by the hens Harry and Dotty who you can thank later for at the Hen house at the back ! 

We visited the area for a tiny getaway and to also visit the Michelin star restaurant The Black Swan, which is only a 13 minute drive away. There are also places near bye for walks the routes of which are available at the B&B. 

All in all we couldn’t have asked for more and would highly recommend a stay here.

Amazing find

Fantastic B&B with plenty of history 

We stayed for one night in November, and like a lot of people who apparently use it, we were booked to dine at Tommy Banks's restaurant, Oldstead.
You can't check in until 5pm, but we phoned and were told someone would be around if we were earlier. 
We were told there had been numerous floods in the bathroom so to be careful with the shower, wash hand basin and bath. 
We were expecting the use of a lounge with a fire as is advertised on the web site. It wasn't available which made it awkward as were there with friends and we couldn't sit downstairs and even just have a cup of tea together.
Paul and his wife are very nice people. But we felt that some things need to be sharpened up a bit. It's like their enthusiasm has waned. The A to Z in the room mentioned something about 2013 tickets; obviously not been updated.
Ask for a room at the back unless you don't think the traffic will disturb you.
Cobwebs on the lamp in the bedroom; just needs some TLC.
Lovely choice of some fabrics and nice designer colours used. But of course that's subjective.
