Lensfield Hotel 

I spent ten excellent days here for a writing retreat. The location could not be better. I wrote in the restaurant of the Fitzwilliam museum, right around the corner, and in various central Cambridge cafes. I bought the included breakfast--quite a good continental breakfast, and they didn't mind if I stayed longer there and wrote for an hour or two. The hotel is run by a family of sisters, and I so enjoyed all of them! They made the stay very personal, and they were very helpful about getting me a better room when I arrived. I was first put in an absolutely tiny room, where there was hardly enough space to open my suitcase (it was an "executive single" in the old part of the hotel), and I paid more to be put in an absolutely lovely room in the newer part of the hotel with excellent plumbing and water supply. (No A/C but I opened the windows. For some people it might be a bit loud with street noise, but I did not mind.) There is a huge variety among the rooms at this hotel, from hostel-like to luxury. Don't miss the chance to get a spa treatment from Theonie (women only)--what an experience! I had the "precious pearl" and it was the queen among facials. Highly, highly recommend. You just can't beat the location!
