Stayed for 1 night on the way home from Scotland as it is minutes from A66. Not that you would know that. It is tucked away in a pretty quiet area. Warm and welcoming with a cosy bar area with wood burner. Evening meal and breakfast were excellent. Could not fault. Room was spacious, warm, clean, in fact the whole place is spotless.
Everything was perfect for a good nights sleep and meal. Would definitely stay again. would definitely recommend. Good value for money. We booked the garden room as had planned on taking our dog but very sadly we  had to say our final goodbye to him just before we travelled. The garden room would have been perfect as it had patio doors to an enclosed area and there was plenty of room in the room.

We stayed here whilst walking Lady Anne's Way. We arrived soon after noon due to the inclement weather and whilst check-in was stated from 3pm, Louise arranged for our room to be cleaned as soon as possible and we were offered our room early. In the meantime she looked after us well with drinks and lunch in the bar/restaurant. The room was spacious and had a bath which we like - as more relaxing than using the shower. Evening dinner was delicious. Unfortunately the next morning I left a favourite pair of earrings in the room. On phoning later that day Louise went straight to the room to find them and then arranged for them to be posted home for me. They were waiting for me when I got home and my offer to pay the postage (tracked royal mail) was waived. So top marks for service - thank you Louise, Stephen and Sandford Arms.

Had lunch here with chums and it was great! Brilliant food and smashing service. Don’t go to Appleby - go here! 
We were sitting by a birthday party crown and when I asked if we could be moved to a quieter table as members of our party were struggling they were lovely and immediately acquiesced and couldn’t have been more helpful. It is a great place to eat with a lovely ambience and smashing staff. We shall be back! Thank you very much.

Stayed here whilst attending a wedding at nearby Eden Wedding Barn. Warm welcome and the owner kindly agreed to accept our bags ahead of check in time before the wedding started. 

Great room - clean and functional. Our super kingsize bed in room 4 was extremely comfortable.  Great breakfast in the morning and all for a sensible price. Would definitely return and recommend to others.

Staying just a short walk away we visited on Sunday afternoon after walking the dogs in the local area, the pub was quite after the lunchtime rush but we were welcomed by a lovely roaring fire and a very friendly server, after a couple of pints and a chat with some other guests that were staying in the B&B we left. 

We then returned on Monday evening for a meal, again we were met with a very friendly welcome, this time from the owners daughter, she showed us to our table and brought our drinks over to us. The food was absolutely gorgeous, we were served quickly but didn’t feel rushed at all. We had starters, main and pudding and devoured every crumb of it. 

The pub is very dog friendly and we would definitely recommend and return if we’re in the area again.

An absolutely fantastic local pub that serves great food, friendliest staff we have come across anywhere, giving you a very warm welcome each time we have visited..
Always look on the specials board we had venison that was cooked to perfection.

Highly recommended which is why we keep on returning :)

Late lunch driving back from the lakes. Came across the Sandford purely by chance. A warm and friendly greeting and a lovely feel to the place. Two of us had the giant yorkshire pudding which was really really good. The Sandford chicken and king prawn curry were also well cooked and delicious.

Just spent a very pleasant couple of nights here while attending a wedding at Eden Barn. We had a family room which comfortably slept three adults. Excellent attentive service lovely evening meal and a great breakfast. Couldn’t have asked for more and just a short hop to the wedding venue. I would highly recommend. 

We found this place by mistake and have eaten here several times now. Really nice food in a really nice place. The staff are really friendly and the bar area is very nicely done out.
We will definitely be returning

Great welcome and beautiful food

A hidden gem

Excellent stay

Shamefully, we only called in to the Sandford Arms for the first time last week despite plenty of visits to the Appleby area over recent years. We were tired after a great day of walking and thought we'd turn off to see what it was like.

We were warmly welcomed by the bar staff and we sat outside with our dog to enjoy the last of the sunshine. We ordered two meals; the burger and homemade lasagne. Both meals were absolutely lovely; the lasagne particularly was beautifully presented and so well made. The burger was humungous and had all the trimmings!

The food was excellent, service was faultless and the setting is beautiful. We can't believe it's taken us so long to drop by but this will now be a regular of ours when we visit!

Wonderful Meal

We were staying in a local cottage and wanted a nice country pub for a birthday dinner. Despite being very quiet (only us and another table in that night) we had the most delightful meal and welcome. All meals were tasty and my boys enjoyed their Children’s menu choices. Thank you. I would highly recommend.

Lovely meal

We stayed 3 nights at the Sandford Hotel and had such a peaceful and relaxing time. We cannot fault anything. Very clean and comfortable room with a spotless en suite. Owner was very easy going, accommodating and lovely to meet. The waiting staff were all very professional, helpful and speedy. All the meals we had, 3 full fantastic cooked breakfasts and 3 evening  meals were all faultless. Very good value for money. We are so pleased we found this area, lots of walks in the area and some love villages. We will definitely go again

Lovely hotel in a peaceful little village.

Just come back from a weekend at the Sandford Arms. Excellent stay.  Made very welcome by Louise, who checked us in quickly without fuss and served the drinks.  Two breakfasts and two evening meals over the weekend and all four of us thoroughly enjoyed each one.  Steve didn't seem to stop working all weekend and all the staff were very friendly and helpful.  We had room 3, which was huge. Great area to visit with loads to do.  Will recommend to others and will return.

Stay March 2022

Stayed in The Sandford Arms for a couple of nights in January.  The hamlet is pretty small, very tidy and boasts a great pub. The landlord couldn’t do enough to help. The room was an outbuilding because we took our dog and there was an enclosed outdoor space, which would be lovely in warmer weather. The room was spacious, clean, modern with a bath!! Breakfast was included in our deal and very tasty with plenty of choice. We ate in the restaurant one night from the menu which again had ample choices and were pleased with our selections. Two very good real ales available to keep me happy along with lagers and bottles - enough to keep most people happy.
Not the easiest of places to find as it seems we had to travel a bit further way from Appleby to get there -OR maybe it was just us.

Hidden Gem

a good hotel clean and tidy,nice food very good breakfast, quite a few locals there nice atmosphere, good stop to visit Appleby and surronding area. book direct it saved money.good walks from the inn a great area to explore on foot loads of well kept footpaths.

It was a Monday evening and it was very busy, which I don't think they were bargaining for. 
Just one young lady serving who was excellent and really made you feel welcome.
Food was very nice with large portions, plenty of parking.
Highly recommended.
