The Salt Raker Inn

Perfectly placed across the street from a beautiful beach.  The manager, Erika, and her co-worker Ruby make this place inviting and fun.  Follow a meandering path back to the Secret Garden, a restaurant and bar full of travellers and locals who welcome you into the fun.  We love our stay here, the people make it feel like home away from home.  And it's the perfect location to spend your time in Grand Turk.  Every sunset becomes a social event. If you're in Grand Turk, don't pass by without stopping in.

We stopped at the Saltraker for dinner tonight. We were not disappointed. Food was very good and well priced. Service was excellent. The best part of the meal was the Chocolate Coconut Pie!!! Amazingly delicious!!

My husband & I spent 7 nights here. We had an upstairs suite with balcony complete with hammock, chairs and table. From there, we had a fantastic view of the ocean and beach. Sitting there and watching the locals, tourists, and donkeys was perfect. The diving on Grand Turk is amazing and the dive shops are just down the road. There is a restaurant on site where the food was delicious (especially the chicken schnitzel). The help were friendly and we left there relaxed and vowing to return.

Very good food, island time service which was very good...you just need to relax. More along the lines of home cooking. The atmosphere goes with the island, which was nice but definitely not mainstream. Worth the wait.

I made reservation via email. Communication with Erika is trouble-free, fast. Salt Laker Inn has good position for exploring the whole island by foot (in the middle), my room was spacious, clean, AC available (I didnt use it), a beach 5 metres away :)

We're Canadian seniors, in the middle of a two-week stay. Can't say enough good things about the place, and Erika, the manager. The beach is a few steps away, the road that runs alongside the place is the most attractive on the island, the main restaurants are here and a few steps away, the dive centres are a few steps away, the sunsets are  marvellous and you can watch them from the balcony.

We stayed here in January and ate dinner here as well. The room was very basic but very comfortable. Good wifi, hot water, and a small fridge and coffee maker. No hairdryer. Also had beach chairs to use. The beach is just across the street!

The food was great! We had chicken schnitzel for dinner (the owner is German) and it was very good. Breakfast was a simple eggs, bacon and sausage with toast but tasted quite delicious. The bar was constantly filled with locals.

Sandbar across the road is also quite delicious. There are a couple dive shops just down the road (one of which rents bicycles). Also very close to the downtown area with the National Museum.

This is a REAL vacation paradise, people. And don't come to Grand Turk to 'unwind' via TV or WIFI because hurricane damage made television unfeasible and the WIFI (while it is provided by the Inn under three separate networks) is really spotty. One time, long ago (okay, last month LOL) Hubby and I would've thought that no TV or internet would be sheer horror...then we came to Salt Raker Inn on Duke Street, just across from the sea, and enjoyed one of the best vacations of our lives.

Erika is a just a freaking national treasure as are Miss Ruby and Miss Sohany in the Secret Garden Restaurant (attached to the Inn). Shout out to Miss Jeanne as well, who did a great job keeping our sweet room sparkling clean.

Our room had a really comfortable king bed, a small coffee maker and a good mini-fridge. If you've vacationed at a reasonable, historic Key West inn you'll get a good idea of the rooms here. A pleasant surprise was a very good AC system, which we kept off during the day to save money for the Inn. Speaking of money, both the Inn and the Secret Garden must offer the best value on G.T. We loved the food and met a lot of other travelers who rated the Secret Garden their favorite restaurant on the island too.

We only drink beer (uh...or so we thought last month). Beer is BEYOND expensive here, so we got to enjoying the local rum, either with soda or juice. Delicious!! Even better enjoyed on the balcony down a short hall from our room. We brought a mini-speaker and enjoyed hours upon hours of downloaded tunes, staring out at a mesmerizing sea (green flash sunsets are sheer perfection).

The mosquitoes here are killer. Staff does their best with mosquito coils. We hate bug spray, but I did find a Muskol lotion before we left on the trip that we applied daily, keeping the bloody bloodsuckers to a minimum.

Shouts out to Mr. Tony Fulford and Mr. 'Salt Cay' for entertaining, informative and inexpensive taxi rides from Jack's Shack. Miss Erika and Miss Ruby got us a golf cart for 24-hours through Omar...that young man is a total class act. We were able to take the cart to the airport and leave it for Omar to pick up later, made catching our flight to Provo that much easier and more convenient.

I didn't forget Erika (LOL) thanks for the sign on the golf cart that let everyone else know the cart isn't theirs...until next time, much love to all of you (including the doggies and kitties). Cheers!

I loved this place.  Funky, laid back.  7 people came into this restaurant at once, I'm sure that threw them off but it took 1 hour 40 minutes to get our meal.  It was great when it came.  Very nice waitress.  I would go back, just not when hungry.  I get Caribbean time but this was excessive.
