VuPoint Guest House

Vupoint Guest House is located on a hill in the Bethel neighborhood, so it has an excellent view of the Buccoo Reef. It is about a 20 minute walk to the nearest beach (Grange) which is very bear bones (no lifeguard, no bar), but has great shade trees and beautiful clear blue water. The rooms at the guest house are very spacious with enormously high ceilings. We had a room with a private bath and the shower had strong water pressure and an almost spa feel due to its size. The kitchen is also large with access to enough flatware to feed a small army (lol). The refrigerator is also large and there is access to a stove as well. The porch adjacent to the kitchen is huge, with a beautiful view, perfect for sipping tea in the morning or a cold Stag in the evening. Because this is a guest house, rooms are not cleaned during your stay (I didn't know about this so I thought it important to mention). And although the website says that continental breakfast is provided, it is really do-it-yourself, with a loaf of bread, butter and jam (I left my strawberry jam so maybe you can have some!), tea bags and instant coffee. However, the kitchen is well equipped enough for you to make your own meals (although why would you when the food in Tobago is so delicious. By the way, you must have Benji's Bake n Shark located by the harbor in Buccoo). Vupoint is located in a great neighborhood where, if you are friendly like we are, you can meet people and get acquainted with the local culture. We were there at Easter so there was a big street party called Harvest. People graciously invited us to their homes for delicious food and we danced and limed until the early morning to dancehall, soca and reggae. Harvest happens often on Sundays in this neighborhood, so maybe you can catch it! Molly is a great host and was quick to help us buy groceries and give us pointers on places to visit. She provided us with an extra fan, as well as beach towels. If you want a resort with a beach at your doorstep, fresh towels each day and a full buffet at each meal, this is not the place. However, if you like being off the beaten path and want to feel closer to local culture, while being in a safe, clean, spacious space with a great view, then by all means, choose Vupoint!
