Björkbackens Stugby

We decided to visit Astrid Lindgren Park on our trip through Sweden and had problems to find an affordable hotel during holiday season in Vimmerby. So finally I decided to give the Bjorkbackens Stugby a try even after reading kind of negative reviews here on Tripadvisor and other places. In short: The place is better than the other reviews would suggest. My family with one 6 year old daughter loved it. The place consists of 45 little houses that can accomodate maximum 6 people. However I personally would not recommend it to more than 4 since space is limited. The houses have electricity but do not have running water so they also do not have a tolet or shower. Running water can be found at multiple stations, toilets, showers, washing machines, dryers, microwaves etc. can be found at the main house which is about 100m walking distance from the furthest away house. You need to bring linens, bed sheets and towels on your own or rent them for an extra fee. Cushions and blankets are provided. You also need to clean the house at check-out or order a cleaning service one day before check-out for 300 Krones. There is a large playground, a restaurant, a small shop and a large pool area within the community. The pool is an additional 80 Krones per person per stay - so if you stay more than one day you only pay once. What we loved - really good beds ... we had one of our best nights on our trip here - Nice setup with the outside patio - cozy for warm evenings outside while your kids are already in bed - park your car next to the house so great for re-arranging luggage on a longer trip - free WiFi in some places - large fridge inside your house - easy to find outside of the town but still only 5 minutes away from Astrid Lindgren Park. There is a large supermarket not far away either so (re-)stock for breakfast. - kids love the beds over the entrance door What we did not like - it is still a bit akward to get up by night, get dressed and walk down the road if you need to pee - electricty is connected with a chain of power outlets in series... which seems to be a fire hazard. This would be never up to code in US or Germany. - Some of the houses are next to a heavy traffic road... not much traffic by night but starts early in the morning We had house 27 and paid 770 Krones a night for two nights.
