Upon arriving you are instantly greeted with a beautiful view of the lake and very welcoming feel to Utbygardens. PIa and Otto are wonderful. They know the area really well from living there for years, including great places to cross country ski. The have also traveled extensively themselves so know what is important when you are traveling. The village is quaint and but close to town for shopping. We were there for  Vasaloppet which Otto is very helpful in arranging transportation etc.

We checked into this hostel before we realised there was an annual classic car festival going on in Rattvik. The grounds are located around farmland with lovely views. The staff was friendly and helpful upon arrival. Our room and the common spaces were clean and provided everything you’d need in a hostel. When we realised the festival was going on in Rattvik, we decided to stay in Mora instead to avoid the crowds. The owner was very understanding and even refunded us over half of the accommodation cost as well as the cost for the sheets and towels we initially rented. Would definitely suggest staying here if you’re looking for a friendly hostel or if you are keen to attend the annual car festival in late July/ early Aug!!

This was really a great surprise! This is a great hostel. Very friendly and personal staff, simple and well kept rooms, very nice prices. We paid 100 euro for one night in a room with four beds (two bunk beds). Also, the surroundings are hands down beautiful!

I will happily return to stay at this hostel.  Pia, one of the owners is incredibly friendly and helpful.  She will find you the right tourist materials out of her extensive collection for the Dalarna area and give you great suggestions for what to see and do, plus the pros and cons of travel routes.  The place is very clean and the rooms I saw were airy, with nice views.  The rooms were also on the larger side compared to many places we stayed. The breakfast buffet, if you choose to pay for it rather than use the kitchen, was diverse and good.  I would rate Utbygardens five stars for its category.  What is different from hotels in the US, is that it costs more if you don't want to clean your room when you leave (It doesn't take that long to clean and all cleaning supplies and equipment are provided). Also, you can save money if you bring your own sheets.  My husband and I each carried a double bed sheet and a silk sleep sack, which we used in most of the places we stayed, so we didn't have to rent sheets each night.

Lucky enough to have a third floor room so our view was fantastic with glimpses to the lake. A very large hostel with accommodating hostess. We were traveling by public transport so she asked around to get us a ride both mornings into Rattvik, five kilometres away. Although we did have to walk back due to infrequency of the buses. One does NOT have to walk along the main road though as there is lovely meandering through the villages on the way back as well as an old railway line specifically for bikes and walkers. Bring food to cook in the big kitchen or walk two to three kilometres to the nearest restaurant. Great if you want to wear off your evening meal as the walk was so interesting, time passed quickly. Beds were very comfortable. Decent selection at breakfast, but get in earlier. Lots of brochures in the lobby.
