Excellent
The Alcazaba is in a pedestrianised area and so good for kids safety. It's also 2 minutes walk from the Museum, 8 minutes walk from the harbour, 8 minutes walk from the railway station (connects with the airport) and surrounded by cafes, restaurants and shops. Not to mention backing directly onto the Alcazaba and Gibralfaro castles and the earlier Roman remains. You are up to your armpits in history here. We all loved it. Location scores 10/10 We were here for a family Birthday with a couple who had flown in from the US and then quite a few of us family members from UK. We had room 38 (3rd floor with views out of the back windows directly onto the castle. Also close to the lift for those with mobility issues. Warm air heating, great size bed and comfortable. Large wardrobe with room safe inside. All of the usual stuff like a fridge, TV and a good en-suite with sliding glass doors and plentiful hot water. Towels may have been a bit thinner than ours at home but still a good size and changed more regularly than we are used to (a good thing). I won't mention the toilet paper being a bit flimsy. Overall bedroom scores 10/10 The Batik restaurant on 4th floor is where we had breakfast every day because the food is so good and pretty low cost for what you get (don't anyone tell the management). We had omelettes and toasted crusty white rolls and Café Lates most days along with fruit juice. Restaurant 10/10 The rooftop bar!!! OMG, they could charge you just to be there because the views are stunning across the city rooftops and the ruins of the castles. We finished every day by having wine, beer or cocktails before heading to our rooms to sleep. Rooftop 11/10 My wife has mobility issues and the only challenge she had was the three steps up to hotel reception. The lift gets you everywhere and the hotel arranged the hire of a mobility scooter and she whizzed around the city in it and had a great time (now she wants one for home). At night we parked it near reception and the hotel charged it and kept an eye on it for us. Support for mobility issues 10/10 The staff are all helpful and go that extra mile which sometimes quite surprised me. I can't think of any other hotel we have stayed in where all of the staff were so friendly. On the last day we had checked out and were waiting for our taxi to collect us when there's a flurry of movement and one of the cleaners is shouting for our attention. I had left my dressing gown in the bathroom and she didn't want me to leave without it. Staffing attitude 11/10
