Ecolodge de Palmarin

We went there in August with our 7 year old son and really loved it. The lodge is situated in this area where ocean and river meets. The scenery is spectacular and all kinds of birds, sea life and insects for the kids to discover.The rooms are equipped with AC and en-suite bathrooms, nice and clean bedding. The pool is really nice and child friendly. The beach is huge. The staff is super nice and the food is just amazing. We had the best fish dishes ever. The portions are very generous. Bravo to the Chef! There are several free activities. Visiting the mangrove is a must! Our son helped riding the horse cart when we visited the village. Super fun! However the place overall lacks comfort and they could work to improve that without spending a lot. 

Perfect place for our group, ranging in ages from 5 to 73.  It has everything you could want for visiting this wonderful part of Senegal. If you never left the grounds of the ecolodge, you could have a wonderful time--the beach is great and there's also a lovely swimming pool.  Excellent meals served family style (at least if you're a group) and lots of things to do .  We went  to see villages and birds, including a visit to a fishing village when all the boats were returning with their catches and to a bird sanctuary that rivals Djoudj. Also Joal-Faidiouth, which is an incredible island created from shells that hosts a cemetery with both Christian and muslim graves.
Got around in car, canoes and horse-drawn carts.  I want to add that we would never have seen and learned so much if we hadn't been using Andaando Tours to take us on a two-week trip in various parts of Senegal.

A very relaxing place with lovely bungalows close to the beach. The compound has beautiful trees and lots of birds, the surroundings are quiet so it is a wonderful place to get away from it all. The food is very good and the service super friendly. It also has a nice pool. 

The hotel is located on the most deserted (and therefore clean) stretches of beach in Senegal.  Activities (esp. more active ones) are quite limited, but this is a lovely place to relax, take a contemplative stroll on the beach, read in a hammock, etc.  Relaxation is the dominant vibe.  Staff are exceptionally pleasant and accommodating.  Unfortunately, although there are at least three or four varieties of chairs--at tables, poolside and in rooms--each seemed designed with the intention of creating maximum discomfort and/or inconvenience.  Similarly, doorways are just high enough for persons of average height to crack their heads on and rooms include cement dividers (about 10cm high) of no apparent function which seemed designed to stub toes on the way to pee in the middle of the night.  Similarly, mosquito screens were installed on window grilling, leaving large gaps for easy access (and the rooms were consequently full of mosquitoes).  With some minor and inexpensive design tweaks, this would be my favorite destination in Senegal, but it is hard to give five stars when so many things  are so senselessly defective.  

I was more than happy to spend three days disconnected, but I noticed that other guests who were trying to connect to wifi were spending a lot of time being frustrated.  This was a non-issue for me, and indeed, bad connectivity jibes well with the relaxed vibe, but if connectivity is important to you, I would not assume that it will be reliable.

This is a lovely place to spend a few days.  The rooms are cute and nicely laid out, with lots of space and good bathrooms.  The food was good.  The price was reasonable.

The beach is really nice and low key; there was one guy selling stuff, but he just offered once and then left me alone.  You can walk a long way along the beach and not meet anyone.  The water is calm, safe to swim in, which is kinda unusual around West Africa it seems.  The pool is also nice.

We went on a pirogue trip in the mangroves and later on a fishing trip.  The fishing guide (Samson) knew birds.  Our pirogue guide (Simon) did not.  There are bikes you can borrow (from Francois) to ride down to the end of the peninsula to see the fish market.  There are almost no cars on the road.  The bikes pretty much suck, but it is flat and not so far to go, so hakuna matata.  There are almost no cars on the road and they are careful of bikes!

We were there for New Years Eve and they throw a nice party, with drummers and dancing and a packet of streamers and hats and stuff.  It was fun enough all us middle-aged folks managed to stay awake till midnight with the teenagers.

The WiFi is weak to non-functional depending on the time of day, but that isn't why you go to an ecolodge...

The mosquito screens on the windows are purely decorative and the nets on the beds are the small, difficult to get into kind (my niece said it was a parcourse exercise to get into the bed because they were tucked in tight under the mattress with just no slack to maneuver).  They need bigger nets!

The servers were friendly and they could dance!  The same few people seemed to be working ALL the time.  They were there at breakfast, lunch, and after midnight, then at breakfast again the next morning.

We spent three days at Ecolodge Palmarin with our two small children. The rooms are clean and have mozzie nets. The food is very good. The lodge is next to the beach and also has a swimming pool. There are a number of activities that can be organized by  the lodge e.g. boat trip to the mangroves and hyena watching at the Reserve Naturelle de Palmarin. Overall highly recommendable.

A dream

Great location by the sea where you can enjoy some feee activities like biking to go to Differ ( 6km) , boat ridding. The lodge has a nice swimming pool and provide European meals at night ( quite unfortunate if you want to discover Sénégal gastronomy ).
However the rooms are FULL of cockroaches not one but so many that it was impossible for me to stay in . The staff did not realize this is an Important criteria for tourist .
For me ecolodge does not mean full of insects of all kind so please improve the cleanliness of the room and be more considerate to people .
