Fantastic
358 reviewsSo lets be perfectly honest about what you are getting yourself into if you go here. This is meant to be honest for anyone not accustomed to being in the outdoors or in tropical climates (I am) and later I will get into the reward and incredible experience of this magical place. It is the rainforest. Yes it may rain every day. It WILL be warm. It WILL be humid. There WILL be insects and mosquitoes aplenty. The accommodations are not sterile or bug proof, there will be bugs in your room, but if you accept this is their home and use the appropriate precautions, (I recommend the insect repellent lotion and long sleeve fishing shirts/pants), you will be fine and have the experience of a lifetime. And one more thing, there's no hot water, and no air conditioning, but ceiling fan and oscillating fan. It's fine really. Not even a problem for me but hearing others complain about this I thought I would be upfront with it. So the lifetime experience thing! Yeah, you can't beat an all inclusive facility that lets you decide what excursions you want to experience. The meals were simply delicious. Fancy at times, but altogether balanced and others had their dietary needs accommodated. They always have filtered water to drink, tea, coffee and snacks if wanted. Meals are served on time in a dining room. The servers and bartender is extremely friendly and kind if you take the time to get to know them as is the kitchen staff, they mostly speak Spanish but some can speak a lot of English and you can often find a translator. They are extremely accommodating and try to please even the fussiest guests. There is a common area above the dining room and it is screened and has sitting areas and hammocks for relaxing. There is wifi in this area as well as in the dining area. There is no wifi in the rooms or the rest of the property, but honestly who the heck needs it? The treehouses are very quaint and as others have said it is glamping at its finest. A private shower, toilet and sink is quite the luxury. Once you get past not having hot water you soon realize you will be hot and sweaty and it wont really matter. Everyone is sweaty, everyone gets wet, if you do just lay your clothes out or hang them in front of a fan and it will be fine. The mosquito netting protects you while sleeping as long as you don't leave it open. They also put mosquito coils in the room at night to deter mosquitos. There are some stairs to climb and some suspended walkways so it is essential to be able to navigate these and houses 1 and 2 (we stayed in 2) are the easiest to get in and closest to the dining room. It would be challenging for people with disabilities or balance issues. So the excursions are the heart and soul of this magical place. Our guide, Osmar, and our boat driver Jayner took VERY good care of two 50 something women of average fitness. We were shown so many different species of birds, monkeys, and 7 sloths. We also saw frogs, snakes, and caimans, as well as many different medicinal plants. Even on a day that we had lots of rain, they brought in a local woman to do crafts with us so we made our own bracelets. Every excursion brought so many wonderful gifts and experience, even when we got wet. The rainforest is magical and it was a special privilege to be guided through it by those who call it home and can share not only the wildlife and plants but also the ancestral beliefs and history of the region. This is a once in a lifetime experience for anyone with the adventurous heart and spirit and the willingness to live outside the boundaries of your comfort zone. Muchos gracias to all the wonderful staff and guides of the Treehouse Lodge in Peru!
