Great large modern room with Wifi, BBC, CNN, heater, 140 soles March 2014. Restaurant and take away deli adjacent to lobby was very popular. Half a block from central square. No English spoken so I managed with Google Translate.

I stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights. I arrived after an exhausting trip by train and I was looking forward for a relaxing shower. When I checked-in, I was welcomed by the night lady who was rather shy and not very talkative. As soon as I asked her a couple of questions, she started recommending nice places for dinner as well as she offered to call a travel agency to organise the following day excursions. I told her I wanted a quite room, so she offered me to visit 2 rooms and pick the one I preferred. Finally I opted for a room facing the street (rather noisy) but refurbished. I was escorted to my room (I don't even get escorting services in many 5*!!) by a friendly guy. My room was really clean! There was a safe deposit box, a heating unit, a fridge and a TV with a nice selection of channels. The bed was really big and as comfortable as beds found in 5* hotels. The bed sheets were impeccable, the duvet warm and there were 4 pillows. Additionally, there were 2 extra blankets which I didn't require. The bathroom was also clean and the water was very hot. However, the selection of amenities was rather limited (but what can you expect for a 130 soles/night!). The included breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs with 3 toast, butter, jam, a large freshly squeezed juice and coffee/tea. Although not a huge breakfast, it was sufficient. I would definitely recommend this hotel since the value for money is very good and it is located on the back of the Cathedral (in the city centre). Just be aware of the noise (as anywhere else in Peru).

For Huancayo this is a good hotel. When this hotel would be in Lima it would be an average hotel because water in de shower didn't left quickly away. Also the safe was closed. No window outside but many things where good. I liked that it was clean. Also the fridge in the room was nice. Further the beds where good and the reception tried to help whatever they could with limited speaking english. The food / room service was good. I think that this hotel have many business people. Price was 3 times higher as the neighboors but it was more clean.

This hotel proved to be a nice place to stay on a weekend trip to the Andes. The room was clean & comfortable. There was adequate storage space in the room and it overlooked the cathedral. I appreciated the espresso machine and complimentary water available in the lobby. Staff were all very helpful as well. The complimentary breakfast was not our favorite and we chose to skip it the 2nd morning. The WiFi was free, but it kept requiring that we re-login numerous times a day, which was cumbersome. The location was excellent, we were close to restaurants, shopping center, main square, etc. Appreciated the unexpected discount we received as we paid our bill upon check out.

El Marquez Hotel

By Peruvian standards the Marquez is not that bad.  There is ample hot water, good cable TV, quiet, clean rooms, a very nice breakfast at their popular restaurant, and functioning free wi-fi throughout.  Where it falls short is service.  The lady who works the counter in the evenings was downright rude, and it made for an uncomfortable stay.  My requests for soap, a pillow and shampoo were ignored despite repeated requests.  Furthermore, the lady was ignorant as to Peruvian law which exempts foreigners from paying the IGV tax of 19%, and became indignant when I mentioned it to her.  On my return visit following 7 days in the high Andes backcountry, all I wanted was to shower, shave and put on a clean change of clothing, but it took the staff nearly an hour to pull my suitcase out of storage and deliver it to my room with the necessary implements, delaying my long-anticipated freshening-up.   The morning staff at checkout was much better than the evening lady.  The hotel's location is very central in Huancayo and is a plus.  I would stay there again if they improved their service, principally by replacing the evening lady.
