We have stayed in these apartments for some years now and the welcome, service and cleanliness is always excellent.  Michael and Chou are great hosts and, if you need anything, it is always resolved without delay.  As they are both local, they can give lots of advice about where to go and where to eat.  The apartments are great value for money compared with others in Valletta plus they are in a great location, just 10 minutes walk from the central City Gate and main bus station.

Second time we have stayed in Michael's apartments, but first time in apartment number one. The view is sublime and the apartment fantastic...really well equipped with great attention to detail and welcome groceries too! Great to meet with Michael, the owner again...drops in regularly to make sure all is well. Very friendly and pretty entertaining too.

These are studio apartments in a location in Valletta that can't be beat.  We stayed in Apartment 2, which has its own entrance, and a balcony with a view of the Grand Harbor  that made us want to sit there forever with a glass of wine.  The apartment has a small kitchen and was generally very well-equipped.  It is just a few blocks from the heart of Valletta and a short walk to the bus terminal from which you can take buses all over the country.  Chou greeted us on our arrival, gave us great tips on where to eat (and where not to eat!) and how to get around. Though the weather was warm (late September) there was good air circulation and a ceiling fan which we found to be adequate for keeping the apartment cool.

We booked all three apartments for a large group.  The location is very good and Chou’s service was excellent.  However the value of each apartment is quite different.

The first apartment has a very good view of the harbour (about 120 degrees) and very easy access  -  only a couple of steps outside and no steps inside.  Apartments 2 and 3 have more steps outside and a couple inside.  Apartment 2 has a 60 degree view,  not bad.  Apartment 3 have very little view.  There is a full kitchen in 1 and 3 but only a kitchenette in 2.  Apartment 2 is the most roomy,  probably because of the small kitchen.  Apartment 2 also has the best bathroom.  There is a street light between Apartments 2 and 3 which lets light in at night  -  if this is a problem then you need to bring eye shades because you really don’t want to close the shutters.  There are ceiling fans in all apartments but they are all noisy and wobble  -  newer fans would be a lot quieter and more effective.  There is a split airconditioner in Apartment 1,  but the outside unit is quite close to Apartment 2 balcony  -  so if that airconditioner is on then Apartment 2 gets the noise.  There is a wall mounted airconditioner in 2,  but it is fairly noisy  -  and the airconditioner in 3 runs from the unit in 2 so Apartment 2 gets the noise even if they aren’t using the airconditioner.

So you can see that the apartments are very different.  The lighting in all apartments is low,  some higher power lamps are needed.  There is no washing machines in the apartments and the furniture is old,  although each apartment provided lots of drawers and hanging space.  The kitchen appliances were old and didn’t always work. The internet was slow but reasonable,  no drop outs.

I think Apartment 1 is good value,  Apartment 2 is fair value in the cooler months (no airconditioning) and Apartment 3 only fair value if there is three people.

We stayed in Apartment 2. The location is ideal, very close to the large bus station and near lots of good restaurants. The small balcony has a beautiful view of the harbor. The host was very nice and offered good information about the city. Our only complaint was the excruciating heat in the apartment at all times. Even when leaving all the windows and doors open at night it simply never cooled down and every morning we'd go outside to find it cooler than in the apartment. It's such a small space, I think it would be completely affordable to install an air conditioner. So as long as you're not visiting during the high summer, I highly recommend!
