Sweet Monkey Backpacker Hostel

The room is clean, very friendly and helpful staff. the location is superb, nearby to the beach & in central cenang, fast wifi and extremely recommended. the best backpacker in cenang with  affordable price! 

The hostel is cheap and in an excellent location for the beach, bars, restaurants and other attractions. It was clean and the staff were really helpful with everything we needed. The hostel itself is a bit shabby, the beds were very squeaky and not very comfortable and the bathrooms and central areas looked very dated. We did have AC and fans in the room.

Not one of the better hostels I’ve stayed in but I still had a good stay and extended for an extra night. Just expect it to be a bit ramshackle.

Awesome place! 

The only advantage of this place is the price and the location.

The dorm felt clean enough and bathrooms were OK, but I didn't spend any more time in the hostel then I needed so didn't use the tiny common area or eat the complimentary toast.

Beds were horrible, making loud noises at any movement (that goes for all the beds in the room so it was like an orchestra at night.) The mattress was so worn out that I could feel every part of the grid underneath me when laying down. Didn't try any other beds so that could have been bad luck.
On the up side there where multiple outlets by every bed, that's not everywhere you go! 

Wouldn't stay again but if you're looking for a cheap place close to the beach this might be for you!

Staff playing loud music, early in the morning.. didn't bother me that much because I didn't sleep all night.
I booked the room in mix dorm with my partner and my request was complete ignored by the lady on the reception.
You can't even take your own backpack into the room !!!!! This is the hostel policy... but if something will get stolen.. they have a note on the wall that it's your own responsibility!!!! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️
You CAN GET MUCH MUCH BETTER PLACE FOR THE SAME MONEY. I have been staying in Langkawi over 3 weeks and that was the worst choice ever!

Very bad experience

The pics of the hostel are deceptive. The only advantage they have is a central location but its still not worth the price. The place is not clean or maintained. The floor is always sandy. The bedding was not clean and neither were the towels. The bathrooms are terrible.The hot shower is namesake.  One needs to cross the reception area when using the washroom. The general seating are few cushions on the sandy floor between the reception and kitchen counter. They have minimal facilities.

Better options available

Overall is cheap basic hostel with walking like 500m to the beach and duty free alcohol store nearby. Excellent location for the beach, bars, restaurants and other attractions. 3 shared bathroom with shower consists of 2 comes with WC. Locker/key and towels available for $10 deposits each. Bring own lock if you have it.

Great place with a great vibe as woken up middle of the night by a newly met couple having sex on the lower bunk of the double decker bed. It was great place to stay in this budget hostel. Staffs were friendly & fabulous facilities like water filter, breakfast (bread,oats, tea,coffee-rm1).

Last visited 3 years ago and this was my 2nd visit. There is alot of changes from the reception to room partition. Property is slightly rundown and dimmed. Require refurbish with bright colours. Room pictures is different from the actual stayed.
No person at reception or on the property at night after 10pm. When I checkout next day at 7.30am, found the front door is unlocked and left open. 

I wouldn't recommend staying here at all. The only reason this place is good is because of the central location and it does have a social atmosphere. But the cons outweigh the pros. The bathrooms are really disgusting.The place is really run down. I've been to lots of run down hostels that are still good because they are still cleaned! This one didn't seem to be cleaned at all. The cleaning of the dorms is very minimal.

Not recommended for budget travelers and much better options elsewhere

Yes, it’s a cheap bed but the dorms are cramped and there really is no common area to chill in. There is only a person in reception from 9 am- early evening and no one around at night which means no security and the hostel door doesn’t even lock right now. It’s dirty too. It’s right around the corner front he beach and that’s the only positive thing about it
