Humble reception that every one was comfortable with, friendly staffs who are there for someone anytime you need their assistance, delicious foods by professionals and ts a place to be back anytime soon

Our stay at Saruni Samburu Lodge was really bellissimo!. warmth and professionalism of the entire team.
Special mention goes to Lizzy, who assisted us during every lunch and dinner with such grace and attentiveness. Her friendly demeanor (and reactive smile)  made each meal a delightful experience. Our guide and driver, Sumoro, was absolutely fantastic, always freindly and his expertise as a leopard tracker is incredible.Thanks to his keen eye and patience, we were fortunate enough to spot all of the Samburu Special Five,  the Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, Beisa oryx, and gerenuk.
I  fell in love with these elegant creatures with their distinctive geometric patterns.  Nkujita nabo lpayian! 
The entire staff demonstrated friendliness and hospitality throughout our stay. During the last night, the camp manager talked about her experience and her leadership skills were evident in how smoothly everything operated and how well-coordinated the team was.

Saruni Samburu was a true highlight of my trip. From the dramatic arrival to the sweeping panoramic views, every moment at the lodge felt exceptional. Under Nicole’s thoughtful leadership, the service was seamless, warm, and personal.

What made the experience unforgettable, however, was the deep cultural connection—the sense of sharing, learning, and being welcomed that left a lasting impression.

Set amidst a landscape that reveals its beauty and mystery slowly, the lodge invites you to immerse yourself in the diverse ecosystems that surround it. This is not just a getaway—it's a profound escape into the heart of Africa, its people, and its rich traditions.

There are no words to describe how amazing our stay was at Saruni Samburu. The location is breathtaking, with the whole property overlooking the amazing Kalama Conservancy. Everything about the place is curated in detail.  The rooms, the menu, the common areas and the two swimming pools. The staff is special. Everyone has been extremely welcoming and friendly. We wanted to extend a special thank you to Lizzy for being our amazing waiter and Wilson for guiding us during our safaris. We saw and learned so much. We are giving five stars because it is not possible to give more. Saruni Samburo truly goes above and beyond in every aspect.

Saruni Samburu is a sight to behold. Pictures just don’t do it justice. Saruni has exclusive rights to the entire Kalama Conservancy which is 95,000 acres in size. It connects directly to the 40,000-acre Samburu National Park. While the combined 135,000 acres is significant, in reality the entire Samburu region is so sparsely populated that it is sensually an extension of the reserves. Only 30% of the animals in Samburu are actually in the reserves. There are no fences so the animals can wander freely. 

Out of the three camps we stayed at which included Kifaru House in Lewa Conservancy and Saruni Mara in the North Conservancy of Maasai Mara, Saruni Samburu offered the most authentic safari experience in our opinion. This is because relatively speaking there is much less development and because there are no fences. The animals are a more difficult to see because of the vegetation, but it makes it even more special when you do see them. We saw cheetahs, lots of elephants, Grevy zebras and giraffes and many different birds. Somoro was our guide and was excellent at tracking and spotting animals.

The camp is beautiful and is set high on a rocky hill/mountain. It is hard to believe they were able to create such a luxurious camp in such a remote and rugged location. We stayed in room 5 which was literally built into the hillside. It had a separate living room and bedroom and a huge bathroom. The views from each were jaw dropping. We were just steps away from the top pool which as a 360-degree view of the area. Each morning, we were greeted by the sounds of birds and sometimes Dasi’s.
The food was the best we had on our trip. The Italian food was particularly good. My favorites were the vegetable lasagna, the penne pasta with tomato sauce and meatballs and the spaghetti with a vegetable cream sauce. The desserts also deserve an honorable mention.

The staff were friendly and anxious to help us with whatever we needed. Benson the manager runs a tight ship. Nichole was especially helpful as was Steve our server.
We opted to visit the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary one day. The drive itself was worth the trip. It gave us a sense for how large Samburu actually is. For 2 hours we drove by the sacred mountain and watched vistas of untouched land pass by. The Sanctuary itself is amazing. The care and sacrifice the community has committed to protecting orphaned elephants is humbling. We watched the noon feeding and learned all that goes in to caring for the beautiful creatures. It turned out to be the highlight of our stay.

We are so glad we chose to stay at Samburu Saruni and would love to return.

Spectacular service.  Abundant, excellent food— better than most restaurants at home in the USA.     Learning the culture of the Samburu people was fascinating.  Sightings of wildlife were phenomenal both on our drives and the view from our room.  Amazing overall!

Stunning location with amazing room views, small and intimate with personal staff attention. Very nice food, particularly the typical Samburu meal we had on the last night. Comfy beds and very clean rooms. Nice pools and gift shop. Really enjoyed being able to see the waterhole from our room and watch the animals come and drink. Our guide Samoru is a Samburu Tribe Elder who is expert in tracking wildlife with a particular passion for birds. He taught us so much about the Samburu tribe community which was fascinating. We saw lions, & elephants & many others as well as all of the Samburu ‘Big 5’. We loved the eco-credentials and the fact the lodge is run by the Samburu community to bring employment and security to the community and allow them to maintain their beautiful conservancy and the wildlife within it. We also really enjoyed the bush breakfasts by the river. The staff made a special cake for my husbands birthday and sang traditional songs for him which was so touching. Can’t recommend Saruni Samburu enough. Fantastic service from Lizzy and Emmanuel as well as the rest of the staff. Thank you for making this trip a memorable one. This has set the bar high for visiting Kenya for the first time and I look forward to seeing more of the country.

When we arrived, we received a warm welcome from all the staff and the first impression from the reception area is stunning - WOW THE VIEWS. Cottage 5 (Honeymoon suite) was one of the best places we have ever stayed in! The service is excellent, we were very lucky to have Robert look after us throughout our stay. We really enjoyed listening to how he grew up and he was very knowledgable about stars which my husband enjoyed learning about. All the staff were super welcoming, the room was beautifully cleaned and presented throughout our stay. We also had massages which were excellent. Our guides were Martin and Joseph who were the perfect pair when taking us out on our drives. Honestly, just book and enjoy what awaits you!!!

Saruni Samburu Lodge is a one-of-a-kind experience. Located high on a ridge just outside the Samburu Reserve in an adjacent conservancy, it definitely feels remote and wild. It has sort of a Sedona vibe. Rooms are spacious and overlook a valley where a man-made watering hole can bring in wildlife from miles around in the dry season. 

But dry was not an issue during our trip -- the November short rains were anything but "short" this year with unexpected flooding and the park roads turned to mud tracks.  Worth it tho as the animals, especially the elephants, were very happy with the lush green vegetation after several years of drought.  

Staff was fantastic, overseen by Benson, who went out of his way on several occasions to get us settled (we were relocated here after Saruni Rhino was flooded) and connected to the right people to get to the Save the Elephants research station and the Reteti Sanctuary.  Food was excellent.  Guides were outstanding -- thanks Manuel and Biko!

Stunning views and five star service!!!

Of the two Saruni properties we stayed at, this was by far our favourite and it was entirely due to the staff.

From the moment you arrive, you aren’t just made to feel a part of their family, you are part of it. The staff truly cares about you and ensuring you have an amazing time. 

We couldn’t recommend this property more. Our guides were incredible, we saw pretty much every animal possible and had an overall great time. 

Couple items of note - this is “a camp” in that the shower is outside and there may be lizards, spiders, voyeuristic monkeys around while you bathe… 

The food is very good but the portions are huge and the menu is tailored towards adults. I’d recommend discussing the menus ahead of time and asking for half portions or to take away a course.

One of a Kind -- Among One of a Kinds!

Our safari vacation with Saruni lodges was truly an amazing experience, and our stay at Saruni Samburu was a highlight.  

The lodge is absolutely gorgeous, with unbelievable views at every vantage point.  We stayed in the family villa, which was very spacious and included two ensuite bedrooms, each with their own outdoor showers which we loved, and three large patios from which we had a panoramic views over the valley below.  We enjoyed morning coffee and afternoon drinks on the patio, always seeing wildlife down below and watching the sunset.  And the infinity pools were a treat to take in views and relax between game drives.

The main dining and reception area and the fire pit were great places to connect after our days’ adventures.  And the food and drinks were delicious – from the three course meals at the lodge to the large spreads on our bush breakfasts and lunches, we ate very well.  

But beyond the excellent location and amenities, it was truly the service and people that stood out at Saruni Samburu.  We were cared for at every instance, with Simon looking after our needs at the lodge and Nicole never being far, joining us around the fire and taking us on a neat scorpion safari.  Our guides Jomi and Alfonso were fantastic, the best! – we saw and learned so much with them.  From the moment we were picked up at the airstrip, they tracked and spotted unique animals and landscapes.  They worked so hard to ensure we saw the best of Samburu, and it is truly an amazing area with great sights.  The number of elephants and giraffes were unmatched, and it was a pleasure to see and learn about the Samburu Special Five.  Our day trip to Reteti Elephant Sanctuary was also a highlight, not only for the visit to the sanctuary itself but for all that we learned along the way about the Samburu culture and the conservancies.  

And when weather compromised our flight plan between Saruni Samburu and Mara, the team at Saruni ensured we were safe and made it to our next destination, waiting with us at the airstrips, communicating with the airline, and eventually transferring us to another airstrip (with bonus additional game drive on the way!).  They also ensured that other temporarily stranded guests from the plane not with Saruni were also taken care of and informed.  

The people at Saruni genuinely care about guest experience and the location and amenities at Saruni Samburu are unmatched.  We couldn’t be more happy with our choice to safari with Saruni!

Unbelievable!

What a fabulous experience. Nicole , the manager was very friendly, caring and efficient, she managed our needs and gave us some very pleasant surprises. Our drive/tour guide, Lepar was very knowledgeable and we were lucky to get him, we got to see all the give 4. I resort is on a hill, the valley below, with outdoor shower, it was an experience I will not forget, hope to go back again and would stay there.
