Beautiful ryokan in the mountains, cozy and perfect during the winter. We loved our room. The onsens they have for the hotel (not the ones in your rooms) were an absolute VIBE

Excellent stay with exceptional service from the staff! Both the dinner and breakfast were plentiful with great variety of dishes served. Looking forward to coming back in the future.

This was a wonderful experience. We were asked to check in between 2pm-5pm. We were glad to have made it around 3. From the entrance outside, the lobby, and the rooms it was a beautiful ryokan. The staff was very helpful, accommodating, and really made us feel welcomed and taken care of. The dinner and breakfast is all seasonal vegetables and meat and it is very filling. The chefs took care in presentation and preparation. The dining area  was also such a beautiful experience. Lastly, having our own private onsen was amazing. Highly recommend this stay. Please be aware it is a small area not much to do around. When you do book this place make sure to schedule your bus rides ahead of time!

Wow this was such a highlight of our trip! Def wortg the trip! The onsen was amazing,the rooms were beautiful ,the dinner and breakfast experience delicious,and the staff super sweet. One thing to note, this is about an hr bus ride from Takayama station! We cut it really close because we didn't realize how far it was, if you get there after a certain time,they can't serve you dinner so plan accordingly

Environment is fine, but a bit far from the shops and train station.  Also a bit not enough staffs for services.

Wonderful and magical place , the staff has been so kind and patient with us.The private onsen is fantastic.My husband and I have stayed there for two nights and enjoyed thé variety of food for our 2 breakfasts and dinners.We strongly recommend !

Exquisite ryokan experience with private onsen. I can’t say enough about how wonderful our stay was at Kakurean Hidaji. The meals were stunning, the hospitality was unmatched and the serene landscape is magical. Such a peaceful, memorable part of our time in Japan. Hope to visit again one day but until then, I will recommend to friends and family wanting a traditional,  experience in Japan.

The room is nice and comfortable. The dinner and breakfast is yummy. We love the outdoor pool so much and the private look great too. Highly recommend the couple to visit.

Stunning ryokan and private onsen

A highlight of trip to Japan.  Beautiful ryokan with spectacular autumn colour.  Everything felt authentic.  Bedding really comfortable.  Loved our own onsen.  Dinner and breakfast so exquisitely presented.  Not to mention delicious.  This was the very special experience we were hoping for whilst in Japan.

A true Japanese experience

We stayed here for one night after an almost 3 week trip through Japan. Kakurean Hidaji is soooo lovely. The people working here are extremely nice and caring. The room was clean, huge and super cosy. The highlights were of course our own onsen, but also the both big ones we could use by ourselfes. 
The other highlight was the food we had here. The dinner was the best we’ve ever had. It was extremely tasty, the quality of the food was high and it just looked amazing. We do highly recommend this place and may go there again if we are in the area 💞

Lovely stay in the mountains

Staying in this ryokan has been an amazing experience. Staff is really friendly and helpful. The village is tiny and we loved the quietness and pace of the whole stay.Make sure to arrive early enough (during check-in time) so that you can enjoy either the private (in-room) onsen or the public one. Food was amazing (Hida beef is delicious!)

Ryokan in the mountains

Very nice authentic Japanese dinner and breakfast provided. Corkage charge is 2000 yen per bottle if u bring your own bottle. Room is spacious and traditional, living room can overseeing the private outdoor onsen, the bathroom is traditional as well all made of wood, good quality toiletries. 
They made supper shushi for you to bring back room as nite time no shop around for food. Pls try to bring some drink and snacks before u check in. Breakfast latest by 9am and dinner latest by 630 pm need to start. 
Outdoor free car park provided. They giving the fresh milk bottle for each guest and taste really nice.

Really cannot speak highly enough of Kakurean Hidaji. 
Staff had emailed prior and were waiting for us to arrive. 
Rooms, especially private onsen were amazing. The larger public onsen were stunning too. We were lucky enough to have a big snowfall the day we arrived si the onsen in the snow were stunning.
Food was delicious too.
This was my first onsen ryokan experience and thoroughly enjoyed it.
One last note - as we were leaving the porter asked if we had umbrellas, and offered us some. We told him we were catching the bus to leave, he said just leave the umbrellas at the bus stop and soomeone will retrieve them later.

Amazing experience 

All the staffs were very friendly. From the moment we arrived at the entrance we felt very much welcomed. The check in and check out was a breeze. The room was huge, and the open air onsen bath is just amazing. The place is a bit old and you can see that the furnitures are a bit worn out. But it gives the place a whole traditional rustic vibe. We loved how clean the room was and all the amenities are provided for. 

Dinner and breakfast was ultimate pampering to our taste buds. Every dish that is served is not just tasty but visually impressive. The chefs have put in a lot of thought into each meal and this shows in its preparation. We were stuffed by the end of each meal. 

Besides our very own onsen bath in our room, the ryokan also has 2 outdoor private onsen bath with a spectacular view of the mountain and river. 

We would highly recommend this ryokan if you are on your honeymoon or just need a place. to relax. Bravo to the staffs for the excellent service and to the chefs for the excellent meal.

Ultimate Pampering

My wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.The room was very spacious. The staff sets up traditional futon mattresses while you're at dinner, and these are very comfortable. The en-suite onsen is truly luxurious as promised, although be sure to look up steps for how to shower/prepare if you have not done one before! They also open up the main onsens for private use between 10pm and 6am (during the day they're gender-restricted).The food was pretty spectacular - kaiseki style and you're guaranteed to try things you've never had before. I noticed a lot of local fish and greens on the menu. Not for a picky eater though! :)You may want to rent a car to explore the area during the day as it is quite rural. There are some good sites around including viewpoints and hikes if you're willing to drive a bit.The service is also great and the staff made extra effort to welcome us for our special occasion.All in all highly recommended if you want to try a Japanese ryokan experience!
