Location: not as easily accessible or busy as Hirayu Onsen (30 min drive away), next to hotel Nakao Kogen. It's slight uphill, so it's an onsen choice for those who drive and wish some peace. Room: got the twin bed room facing the road, but it was still quiet. Beds were OK, but had no cooling aircon, only heater. Wifi was spotty, which is rare in JP. There is a complete modular toilet + bathroom inside, yet most people bathe in the onsen area downstairs. Bathing (cleansing body) can be done indoors in the gender segregated bath (indoors), then you can head into 1 of 3 outdoor free private onsens to gaze at nature (get a wood tag from lobby, and lock the door). The onsen has some floating mineral deposits, so don't be alarmed. Food: good quality food for almost 300 usd a night, for bed + dinner and breakfast for 2. Food was carefully manicured with slight western touch, but still more to Asian taste. You can bring your own alcohol, but we still ordered wine from the restaurant for consideration. Staff: energetic and friendly, also very helpful.
