Lovely & cozy ryokan with beautiful onsen! Staffs are friendly and the dinner and breakfast served was superb and it’s really yummy. I love their onsen so much it’s peaceful with forest view and you can enjoy the onsen by your own (private onsen) 

This is one of the best hotel I have ever been. We were there in March last year but I just have time to magae to write the review. I did alot of research about the traditional onsen which I can really stay in real style japanese, sleep on Tatami, excited cours dinner, outdoor and private onsen and quiet with no hassle from the tourist. First I found this town which is really what I want. There were not too many tourist at all and super quiet village. This place is not in the middle of the town but we rent a car so it is about 5 minutes drive. 
Food:
Wow wow wow from the first course of dinner until the breakfast next morning everything was truly fantastic
Room:
Big room, nice terrace clean and big toilet (no bathroom as I dont think anyone would care as they have onsen there just few steps away. They provided Tatami which was the first time I slept like that but it was super comfortable and keeps you warm all night.
Onsen: They have private, public, outdoor, indoor and most of the time the outdoor one nearby the river always free and they have many so you can choose whatever you like. The water was clear, nice in good temperature.
Staff: Very polite and helpful, they can speak some english so do not worry about the communication.

I would really recommend everyone to stay here and I will go back again.

Great service provided by the staff. Room was spacious and futon was comfortable. Loved the private outdoor onsens overlooking forest and river streams, it was an amazing experience for us. We booked our room with breakfast and dinner which was really value for money. Dinner was served in our room with more than 15 dishes, including horse sashimi which is a signature dish in Kurokawa. Breakfast was great too. It's a 3mins' drive from Kurokawa onsen town. We enjoyed our stay a lot, highly recommended!

Ryukeien is a very intimate, family-led place. Be prepared to pay the entire stay in cash.

* Authentic facilities, everything you need.
* Very comfortable mattresses, we slept like a baby.
* The food is very traditional and great quality. Both for breakfast and dinner 15+ different dishes are served.
* Staff is very attentive and extremely friendly. They only want the very best for you. They prepared our bed every evening and morning and were happy to organise tours around Minamioguni for us. Also, they picked us up from the bus stop. Even when we had already checked out, they transported our luggage to our next stay, picked us up from our day activity and took us to our next stop - all at NO cost. Unbelievable!

Very pleasant trip. Located next to a river stream, the place was well maintained and kept a very cultural and untouristy feel. 

Owners were hospitable and provided us with great service, yet maintaining the privacy that we desired. 

A memorable stay. Definitely need to take this place into consideration if you are planning a visit to the area. 

Ryukeien provided a really good value ryokan experience. We arrived to a delicious keiseki dinner served in the traditional room and the hosts were subtle and considerate. The room had a balcony which was great to "chill out" in the cold winter night sipping on some heartwarming sake.
They had both an indoor and outdoor onsen for couples. However, the weather was really too cold for us novices to try the 3 different onsens that they had on the property.
Ryukeien was also just a short drive away from the Kurokawa town.
