I had the most beautiful stay at Barnabrow Coutry House last weekend.  We stayed there many years ago when my children were small and so it was a real treat to be back. The interiors are warm and inviting, each room unique and creatively designed and styled by the equally warm and welcoming owner, Geraldine. It was a very relaxing and special stay.

My husband and I went to a wedding at Barnabrow House in June and really enjoyed both days. The ceremony was beautiful, taking place outside in a magical setting in a grassy area surrounded by trees, with chairs set out and paper lanterns hanging from the branches. We then had drinks and canapés in the sunshine, served in the terrace area where there are stunning views across the East Cork countryside to the sea. This was followed by a lovely meal in the impressive dining room with its high ceilings and beautiful polished wood furniture. On the second day there was dancing and a delicious buffet of Indian food. We found the staff to be very professional and friendly. In our view, Barnabrow is a special place with a warm welcome.

If you're looking for a place that feels like a fairytale tucked away in the Irish countryside, Barnabrow House in County Cork is a true treasure. From the moment you arrive, you’re enveloped by a sense of peace, history and gentle charm that’s impossible to forget.

My Mum and I were visiting the Art & Design exhibition at Ballymaloe cookery school so found this location just perfect as it's only a few mins away. And so I guess you’re in a part of Ireland that truly understands and celebrates great food – and Barnabrow holds its own beautifully in that tradition. The homecooked food is exquisite with each meal using ingredients that have come straight from the owner Ger's garden.

The rooms are spacious, elegant, and filled with character, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. There’s a sense of quiet luxury here, not flashy or modern, but authentic and timeless – the kind of place where you can actually breathe.

And then there's Ger  – what a remarkable person. Warm, witty and endlessly knowledgeable, she brings the whole place to life with her stories and fascinating insights. Her attention to detail and eye for interior design is a joy to experience. 

One of the many magical touches of Barnabrow are the hidden doors disguised as bookshelves, stocked with the most wonderful, eclectic collection of books. It’s like stepping into a secret world –

The historical walks around the area are captivating, steeped in layers of local lore and quiet beauty. The estate is dotted with mature trees and lush greenery, offering stunning views over the surrounding hills and fields. It’s an ideal place to reconnect with nature – and yourself.

And let’s not forget the delightful donkeys and goats on the grounds – charming, gentle companions that add an extra layer of magic to the experience. 

Barnabrow House is more than just a place to stay – it’s a place to remember. It's a romantic getaway, a peaceful retreat, or whatever you want it to be but if  you're looking for something truly special & unique this is a place that will stay with you long after you've left.

I have just spent a magical two days in Barnabrow Country House. The accommodation was very comfortable, the food fresh and appetising. The staff were helpful and friendly. Geraldine, the owner, was very attentive. I enjoyed a visit to the local village and cliff top walks with breathtaking views.

Lovely country house feel. No TV in the Room is very nice.

Staff were excellent and accommodating to our late check in, rooms were comfy clean and spacious! Lovely and quiet with a small town Colyne down the road for food and other options!

I liked it for its simple beauty with all of the beautiful plants and trees. One detractor was some of the wood on decking/stairs to cottages look like need to be replaced. Other than that the staff was very helpful & pleasant! I would stay again

We were late checking in, but the worker was outside waiting for us and called us by name. The property is very large and beautiful. It was so quiet and the beds were very comfortable. You do have to drive a short distance down a dirt road. St first we thought we were lost.

A Soulful Place

Reception was inadequate. When addressing our concerns the owner (?) did not introduce herself, got both my christian and surname completely wrong, was not interested in addressing our concerns so clearly the lack of customer focus came from the top.  Breakfast not until 9 was clearly for their convenience not customers.The bathroom had no window or exact fan

We stayed with family and friends for our daughter’s wedding.
The staff was incredibly accommodating, kind and welcoming, even with the guests arriving very late at night.
The bride to be and her bridesmaids were very nicely looked after… and every request was dealt with attention.
Lovely country style feel, nice breakfast, everything was perfect  ……..

Family and friends Pre-wedding stay

Today my family and I had the pleasure of enjoying an absolutely beautiful Sunday lunch in the Barnabrow Restaurant. My daughter and her partner received an invitation to sample a lunch in preparation for their wedding in December. Food and service was superb, the restaurant was lovely and warm. After our meal, Gretta was on hand  to meet with them to discuss their plans for the wedding. We are so looking forward to returning after Christmas for a weekend of celebration. 

Wonderful Sunday Lunch

10/10 experience in Barnabrow this weekend for my sisters hen weekend! The bedrooms were out of this world. So comfortable and elegant! Our 3 course dinner with wine was amazing. Thank you to the chefs, Cinty, Layla, Maeve and the bartender (I forgot name sorry!) for going above and beyond for us. Thank you! 

Amazing experience for Hen Party weekend 

The location is great. Parking not near rooms and cars driving past my room woke me late and early.It would be good if you could get some soup at night when the weather is bleak. Otherwise the places recommended to drive to were great.First pub on list is permanently closed though.Fleet of young Ladies serving were lovely. Breakfast was good. As was lunch. Thank you, I loved the decor.

This was our second time back here to this special setting in East Cork , we got married here in 2019 . It truly is a magical place . The room was beautiful, spacious , comfortable room no 3 family room  , however the only thing was there is no blind on the bay window in this room which light comes into the room early in the morning, and just change of bed sheets for the second night & empty bins. But overall the room was beautiful . The breakfast was simply beautiful and so tasty even our two year old loved all the fresh & healthy choices, beautiful breads , fruits and stunning fresh yogurt this was just delicious along with hot food choices I got pancakes yum , and the coffee brewed to perfection. Everything is organic here just quality. Again we were greeted by the donkeys on site and the hillarious kid goats which were lots of fun . To be honest it was like being out in Spain vibe  for two days . It has to be said it's the perfect location to where you want to travel , very close to ballycotton , cobh , fota , Middleton east cork etc . This place does create memory's and always leave a smile on the face. Another thing I believe this is value for money !!!!!!!!!!

Special place 

A very beautiful location but probably not for the business traveller.  Was in the bridal suite which was lovely and romantic. No TV so nothing to dull the romantic atmosphere. Everything worked.  Lots of stairs. 

Farmyard feel with lots of animals... Goats, donkeys etc.

Breakfast at refectory table but, beware, service starts at 0900h.
