The Astor

I stayed in the Astor in May 2022.  Mary was an  excellent host.  When I told her I was golfing she made sure to give me a quiet room.    The room was perfect for me.  I didn’t have breakfast as I had an early start so she gave me a discount.

Wow the view. From our room the sea was amazing, the room was exactly what we wanted.
A nice bed, ok shower .

The lady we meet when we first entered the b and b was extremely helpful.

The b and b was next to the car park, the car park next to the beach.

The cliff walk was better than anywhere in the world.
The water clear, warm and the waves, soul cleansing.
This town is well with the stay

We booked two nights in Astor for a recent staycation, which was originally meant to be our wedding weekend. We booked a lovely sea view room, very clean and had everything we needed, shower was strong and hot just what you need after a dip in the ocean. 

Mart was a great host and even dropped a little gesture gift to our room as she knew it was meant to be our wedding weekend and really thoughtful thing to do. 

Recommend Mcmunns for dinner we went both nights for the crab claws and railway bar for good Guinness and friendly service.

Ballybunnion is ideal to unwind enjoy good food and drinks and we would highly recommend staying with Mary at The Astor

The owner is so accommodating and caring! She makes the place! The breakfast is fresh and she really accommodates your needs. The b&b is a left turn off the main busy street so it is very quiet at night. It is across the road from the beach. The rooms are very clean and spacious. Great stay here.

This b&b is a perfect location, right in the centre beside the beach and beside all pubs/restaurants and coffee shops. 

There is handy parking across the road (3 euro per day).

We stayed in a sea view room which had the most beautiful view. The room was clean and my only complaint is that the bed sheets are a bit scruffy and worn. This makes it feel like you are staying with a relative or something rather than paid accommodation. 

Breakfast was very good.

Great location with off street parking. Very accomodating host, nothing was too much trouble, despite misplacing the key and getting her out of bed at an ungodly hour.
Great breakfast also, would recommend.

A bit difficult to find because we came from the wrong direction and the Astor is on a one-way street.  But once we were there all was fine and the owner was very friendly.  There is on-site parking at the back of the property.  The best thing about the B & B was the location - right opposite the beach and an old castle.  A minutes walk from the main street and pubs but very quiet.  Lovely breakfast in a large, airy room.  Tea/coffee in rooms.  Decent size bathroom and everywhere very clean.

This B&B sits right on the edge of the beach and some rooms even have views of the Atlantic. The owner is very nice and does a good breakfast . Rooms might be small but the location is excellent.  Private parking in the back.

Great place

Clean and nice owner 

The coast around Ballybunion is worth stopping off at for a day or so. It has two lovely beaches, a dramatically located (if not very substantial) castle ruin and a very good cliff path, though 'Nine Daughter's blow hole' (it is a real thing believe me!) was disappointingly fenced off. The accommodation was just about OK in my opinion, though still a bit pricey for what you get - a very, very small room with a tiny ensuite. The room was clean and tidy and there was a good view of the castle, however there was a bit of a musty unpleasant smell on the stairs and the breakfast room is very gloomy. There is some parking (for about 3 cars, down a narrow alley on a bit of rough ground to the rear of the hotel) and the hotel is on a one-way street. Mary the host was quite brief but polite and did immediately replace a bulb that had gone on the landing - we couldn't see the keyhole in the door!

I'm sorry to be a bit critical (other reviews are much more positive, so read them all too) as this place is someone's livelihood who must work very hard to maintain it (I didn't see anybody else around helping) but I think the place, a bit like Ballybunion town itself, does have a bit of run down feel to it and could do with a makeover at some point.
