Hmmm…how should one put it? Well, I initially booked it because it looked like it was pretty close to everything of interest on the map. Turns out I was right. The location was indeed excellent. Very near the ITC and Pasar Atom malls. Also within a short distance from Kota Surabaya and such attractions as the House of Sampoerna, the Pahlawan Monument, Tunjungan Plaza, and the Jembatan Merah Bridge. The price was also good at $13 USD for a regular room and $15 USD for a deluxe room. That’s kind of where the pros end. The hotel itself was rather dirty. Initially, I did not think it was THAT dirty until I moved from the third floor to the first floor. On the first floor, there were dead roaches, flies, and mosquitoes flying practically everywhere. In fact, while sitting in the lobby, I was viciously attacked, probably 20+ times. Two weeks later, I can still see the remnants of all those mosquito bites. Facilities were VERY subpar (as in hit or miss). Despite moving twice, I could never find a “perfect” room or one with all adequate amenities. The first room on the third floor was relatively spacious, clean, seemed recently renovated, and had a nice view. However, the Wi-Fi was practically non-existent. Like many hotels in Southeast Asia, it was customary to have a separate Wi-Fi network for each floor. Unfortunately, for this one, the Wi-Fi network on the third floor could never connect to the Internet. I ended up using the Wi-Fi network for the second floor a few times, but for the most part, even that network failed. There was also no hot water. When I turned on the water, a blast of super hot water came out for a few seconds, and then from then on, it was non-existent. Needless to say, I did not enjoy the ensuing shower in freezing water. So when I moved to another room on the third floor, the hot water issue was resolved, but the Wi-Fi still sucked. This was the ultimate reason why I had to move to the first floor. In moving to the first floor (and paying a couple bucks more), I was finally able to resolve the Wi-Fi issue. But the “deluxe” room on the first floor was smaller than the normal room on the third floor, had no window, was party to all the noise coming from the lobby, and, of course, extremely filthy. As for the staff, they tried, but they spoke little or no English. Many times, we had to communicate through Google Translate. Even then, things would get lost in translation. Plus, rooms were not cleaned on a regular basis and toiletries were not refilled. I found myself asking the front desk every night when I came back for more toilet paper, soap, towels, etc. (No shampoo provided, so use soap to wash your hair.) And breakfast, of course, was a joke. A meager bowl of fried rice or soto ayam with some shrimp chips. Only tea or coffee served. Bottom line: If you want to be cheap and know what you are getting yourself into in terms of subpar amenities, Wi-Fi issues, and communication problems, then stay here. Otherwise, don’t. You’ll be glad you didn’t.

Pretty decent hotel, the facilities are exactly what you see in the pictures. Nothing fancy at all, basically a bed and breakfast. But they can definitely do better with their air-conditioning. Even at 16 deg celcius, it still felt a little warm. They make up for it with their wonderful breakfast.
