This was the perfect place to stay in the city! The  location was wonderful!

The apartment was perfect for a family of four that includes two adult children. The location couldn't be much better and getting around was easy despite cold and snow. I would definitely stay here again.

Great apartment and location in Reykjavik

The location was great, and the apartment fit our multi-generational family of 7, grandparents through twin 7-year-olds. There is no living room or place to relax together, but we were on the go exploring Reykjavik, and just gathered around the large kitchen table to play games or do activities. The TVs are in the bedrooms, where we watched the Olympics one evening - it wasn't a big deal to hang out there.The host greeted us and was so nice. It was also great that the apartment had dedicated parking, especially since we had 2 cars. We didn't have to find street parking. I would definitely stay there again! 3 large bedrooms (one bedroom with a queen and a single), two bathrooms/showers, very clean, and the location was great!! Close to shopping, restaurants, sightseeing - very walkable!

This place was perfect for our first night in Iceland. We were lucky to be able to check in early. The parking worked for us and we enjoyed walking around town and to the marina area. Great place and super nice and communicative host!

Great location in downtown. Apartment was clean and comfortable. We had a great stay for one night before exploring the south coast!

They were really kind and noticed that we were travelling with a toddler and gave us a place that better suited our needs than the one I had originally booked and the kitchen was very well appointed, beds were comfortable, bathroom had what we needed. Parking was a little narrow to get in but the parking area itself was ample. Given we came in at an off-peak time they also kindly let us check in earlier because they were able to accommodate this request.

Minor points- perhaps it was also my fault but I think we would have benefited from a pictorial description of which door to open (we had trouble finding our key box despite reading the written instructions a few times). It is a well-located apartment but also next to a main street- so expect traffic noises (which I found easy to sleep to), but also we had random people screaming at the middle of the night on a weeknight. This however is outside of the hosts' control! 

We would stay here again.

Family stay - recommended

Our apartment was great and was in the perfect location to bus stops, restaurants, stores, and just walking around Reykjavik. The apartment was very clean, beds were comfortable and it had a kitchen with everything we needed for eating in. Someone came in twice throughout the week to take out trash and leave fresh towels which was much appreciated. Would defiantly stay here again!

Amazing trip and city!

The apartment was spacious, clean and tidy. It was centrally located so made it easy getting about. If you are going any tours there are bus stops which are a 10 minute walk from the apartment. We arrived earlier than planned and the owners kindly allowed us to check in a few hours earlier which was great as it was so cold! The only downside is if you are sleeping in the front room you are right next to a main road so it can be busy, make sure you take ear plugs with you. Also, we were on the ground floor so heard quite a bit of noise from upstairs -again ear plugs helped with this.

Great location & very clean and spacious apartment-hosts were very accommodating!

Reykjavik is an adorable, creative town. It is street art mixed with practical Scandinavian sensibility. Staying at the upstairs 3 bedroom apartment in the gray house at 53 Hverfisgata gives off this same vibe. It is rustic yet clean in an IKEA shabby chic sort of way. It's how I would have styled my apartment when I was just out of college in the late 90s. Definitely not a luxury experience but a comfortable one for traveling with 2 teenagers who need their own rooms. 

PROS:
Location! It is walking distance to the main shopping area (many shops and restaurants on Laugavegur), Rainbow Street, the Hallgrimskirkja church, and Harpa Concert Hall.

Free parking! It's a tight little driveway to get in (use the 55 Hvefisgata address on your Google Maps for more accurate directions) but at least the parking is free!

Kitchen comforts! We stayed 5 nights so it was nice to make our own coffee and toast in the morning and to microwave leftovers so we didn't have to eat out all the time. There is a little Bonus grocery store within a 5 minute walk. 

Beds were comfortable and the apartment was warm and toasty (we stayed 1st week of April when it was still cold outside). And the apartment is super cute!

NOT REALLY CONS BUT NOT PROS EITHER:
For people who hear EVERYTHING and have a hard time sleeping:
- Some of the wooden floorboards were squeaky.
- The walls between the rooms were thin - so we could hear our teenager in the other room on her Facetime at 2 am.
- The apartment itself isn't on the main street, but it's a street away from it. So on Monday through Thursday, it was fairly quiet. However, on the Friday night, we could hear cars speeding by and people merrily walking down Hverfisgata. 

Cozy dining and living area - the roof wall is angled in such a way that only short people can sit by the ceiling slope and the dining chairs are metal folding chairs. But we had places to go, things to see - we didn't sit in the metal chairs all day long! There's no real living room, it's just a couch along the wall which was fine for putting on our shoes.

One bathroom - so while it is nice to have bedrooms for many people,  you all have to manage your time getting ready in the morning with one bathroom. There's not a lot of counter space on the vanity, but there's a bench where we all kept our toiletry bags. With no fan, we just opened the door to balcony when we needed fresh air. Also, this is not against the property, it's like this everywhere in Iceland, but the hot water has a slight sulfury scent to it. Not strong, but enough to remind you that the country is on top of a giant geothermal vent. 

In conclusion, if you are looking for an upscale hotel luxury experience with free breakfast and a hot tub, then this isn't it. However, if practical Scandinavian apartment living is your vibe, then this is a good fit. I had a wonderful time in Iceland and I would stay here again!

Adorable IKEA Shabby Chic Apartment in Reykjavik

This apartment was great for our family of 6.  The location is perfect - just a block off of the main pedestrian street and close to lots of restaurants, shops and sights.  The parking spot in back was a bonus!  The apartment was clean and the rooms were large with comfortable beds.  There is no sitting area other than around the kitchen table, but we knew that going in so not an issue for us.  The apartment is old, but has been nicely updated.   Because it's so old, it was a bit drafty in places.  The second bathroom is quite small, but functional.   The only complaint I have is that the front door lock is not very secure.  We enjoyed our stay here.

Lovely stay in downtown Reykjavik

Wow! What an incredible place to stay for our first visit to Iceland! I will absolutely stay here again! It is in the most perfect location…walkable to everything! The decor is clean and modern, yet perfectly cozy for when you come back from a cold hike and want to relax. The beds were comfortable with crisp, clean sheets. The bathrooms were spotless and spacious. I can’t say enough about this charming, beautiful place! Thank you for an incredible stay!

Beautiful and convenient, this apartment is in the heart of Reykjavik - a short walk from all the sites. 3 large bedrooms and two full baths / a rarity in Iceland!  Fully equipped kitchen and a banquet table dining space make it perfect for a family or group. Parking is on site but if you are bringing a bigger vehicle, bring patience as well as the driveway and parking spots can be tight if the houses are full. We got super lucky and saw the aurora borealis right above the house!

We stayed in the first floor 2 bedroom apartments, fabulous location walking distance to the water front and other Reykjavik attractions. The kitchen is small and basic but perfectly adequate for 4 adults. Large comfortable beds and huge bathroom. We arrived early and was lucky that the last tenants had just left so we could grab parking onsite, otherwise parking is very limited in the area. The wonderful cleaner also let us in early which was fantastic after a 4am start that morning. Would use this as a base again for exploring Reykjavik.

Fabulous location

The location is excellent - very walkable to the old city, harbor, and great restaurants. It is also a quick walk to the Sun Voyager sculpture where we watched the Northern Lights both of the nights we were in the city. The hosts were excellent with details on the stay and very responsive to inquiries we had. It is a bit noisy at night, but much less so than other parts of the city, and it quieted down around 10 pm both nights. Having parking on-site was also a huge bonus and the house was very comfortable for our group of 4.
