This place was exactly what we needed. We stayed for about five nights, spending most of our time on road trips and visiting lagoons, so we didn’t need anything overly luxurious for our home base. Despite having shared showers and bathrooms, everything was consistently very clean.Interestingly, I never saw a staff member during our stay, yet the property was clearly well maintained. The showers were always available when we needed them, with no waiting.The location was also a big plus—many key parts of Reykjavík were just a short walk from the front door. I’d definitely stay here again. 10/10. Also, a lot of close by parking that you can finagle overnight with good timing :) Thanks for having us!! Hope to come back soon!!

Very clean! Loved the coffee station and relaxing common rooms. My room was cozy and warm. Great location for exploring the city and getting buses and shuttles for airport and excursions

The room was clean, albeit a bit small. The walls are practically paper thin so bring a pair of noise cancelling headphones. Despite the noise, it is a perfectly nice place to stay and relatively inexpensive, as well as being in a great location. If you are on a budget, then it is worth staying here.

Now called Old Town and not Kastali, I found the hostel to be in a great location, quiet despite the being well occupied, the rooms fine, and the bathrooms kept clean the entire time I was there. Pretty nice, actually.

Front desk went above and beyond for us and the area is perfect! Within an easy walk to the harbor.

Perfect for my needs, great location between downtown and old town. Room was clean and well presented, check in was easy, recommended for a short stay but some may prefer private bathrooms for a longer stay

I had a great stay at Kastali Guesthouse. The room was so sweet and beautiful, the bathrooms where always nice and clean. Walking distance to the airwaves festival. Was amazing. And I’ll be coming back.

Pleasantly surprised by this property. Brilliant central location, minutes from all the places you want,  very clean and although it was a small room it was ideal for me as a solo traveller. Warm cosy room with a very comfortable bed, sink in the room for brushing your teeth etc. If you want your own room, Reykjavik isn’t cheap, but so happy with this place. Shared shower room/toilet was absolutely fine. I was on the 3rd floor with a view down the street, I suppose if you are in the lower ground it is less ideal. Corridors can be a little noisy when people wheel cases passed but this honestly doesn’t bother me. I walked to the property from the Central Bus station in about 12 minutes. It is a lovely peaceful place. Staff lovely, easiest check in and out ever. I would very happily stay here again, which I think is always the true mark of a good place. ❤️

Although there weren’t toilets in the rooms, there were many toilets and showers on each floor. During the time of year we went (late October), there was always at least one available to use. We liked we had access to the kitchen and appliances there, allowing us to buy groceries and store them in the fridge/freezer as needed. The staff were friendly and willing to help and offer advice when asked. Check-out was really simple - leaving key at front desk even when we had to leave in early am hours to catch our flight. Doors opening and closing can be quite loud but for the most part, it is quiet. Some guests were very loud which is less a reflection on the guesthouse itself. All in all, we had a great stay in Iceland, partly due to the accommodations being right downtown and in walking distance to so many attractions.

My first time staying in a hostel. Never once had an issue with shower or bathroom use. I also realized that a large room is pointless when you only need it for sleeping. It was clean, comfy, and in the city centre. Perfect location for restaurants and nightlife. Bus stop right around the corner was convenient too.

The staff was accommodating when we arrived very early, allowing us to store our bags while we went on a tour. It is disconcerting to talk to staff through a "Ring"-like device (they are not on site all the time). For it being a large guesthouse, it was very quiet - we rarely saw other guests and WC/showers wer always available.  Very good value for Iceland!

Ive never stayed in a hostel or a pod before, and as I was only here for 2 days whale watching I thought this would be a great chance to experience the backpacking life. I just like to say a heartfelt warm welcome from the lady on reception and the gentleman in the mess area. They was so helpful and I couldnt fault the facilities and cleaniness of the washrooms. If your in the area and travelling through and need something reasonably price, stay here. If Im in the area again I will definitely stay here again, remember sometimes its not alway about 5 star its about the people you meet in life. Thank you.

As an older person, carrying my suitcase up three flights wasn't much fun (no elevator), but staff was nice, the room was very clean, with a sink in it, it was quiet, the bed was very comfortable, I could open the window for cool air,  and it was centrally located. There is a kitchen on the main floor where you can prepare food. The fire alarm went off twice around midnight, but these things happen. They also let me store my luggage until I could check in, which was wonderful. I would rate it very highly.

stayed here for one night in June. I would qualify it as a hostel as there are shared bathrooms and the rooms are very basic. the rooms have no kind of air movement besides opening the window which was really loud. we used the blackout curtains which were very nice to block the light but unfortunately didn't let any air in so it was very hot in the room even with the window open (temp outside was in the 50's F). the only signage outside is about 20-30 feet high on the building. I didn't have cell service so spent about 20 minutes walking around the block trying to find where the hotel was. It would be very helpful if the was a sign on the door or anywhere street level. I never actually saw anyone who worked there but communicated through their security cameras. overall it was a fine stay if you are just there for a quick trip and not looking for something nice.
