Gästehaus Demelhof

We stayed at the Demelhof for four nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. This working farm has four double rooms and two apartments. Our rooms overlooked a pasture with a lovely view of the Alps. The rooms were big, each with a comfortable double bed, tv, hair-dryer, hot pot, table and chair, en suite bathroom and balcony; my room also had a fold-out sofa. We paid a small supplement for single occupancy of double rooms, so the price including breakfast was 35 Euros per person per night. You could use the computer next to the breakfast room for 1 Euro per hour. The owners are very friendly, and the high-school son speaks English. The grandmother lives with them and tends the beautiful flower boxes and garden all around the house. The Demelhof is about a mile from the town of Reit im Winkl, in an area with other farmhouses that rent out rooms and apartments. The GPS in the rental car found the farm without any problems. This was a great base from which to explore the area. We made day trips to Lake Chiemsee and to Zell am See, Austria. We even lucked upon a local fest, with dancers wearing traditional dirndls and lederhosen, in nearby Grassau. The apartments are in a building next to the farmhouse. There is a small playground in back and horses in the fields. There are hiking and biking paths all around, and apparently in winter there is not just skiing but snow tubing and sleigh rides as well. The Demelhof was one of the prettiest places I have ever visited. The views and flower boxes will stay in my memory. I'd love to go back.
