Pension Zur Scheune

So this is a very quiet place to sleep in the Eiffel. It's rather central depending on what kind of stuff you want to do - we used it as a base for some hikes, castels, and wildlife parks, all within a less than 20 minutes drive. Staff is very friendly, and the main draw is that they have goats and rabbits and ducks etc. behind the main house. We used to go see the animals after breakfast, and after coming home for the day. You can walk in and pet the goats if you want to. The walls were rather thin - we had a coughing neighbour and we were often reminded of his presence. Otherwise, the rooms were nice, clean, and the shower was excellent. Breakfast is well-organised and offers a lot of choice, though they did not take the trouble to arrange for gluten-free food, even though we asked for it in advance. We also asked whether the message got through when we arrived, and they said it did. Still: nothing during breakfast! Their response was that they inquired at some bakeries and couldn't find anything, but in my opinion it's poor style to have the guest ask during breakfast whether they found something, instead of approaching us themselves, or simply buying something for us in a supermarket or other food store. Fortunately, we always bring backup-food. There's no restaurant in the tiny town itself (the town is only like seven houses), but if you go to Boos (four minutes by car) then there's the amazing Gasthof Zur Quelle, which must be one of the best restaurants in the wide area (traditional German style). In all, I would recommend this if you do not require a gluten-free diet, and if you like animals.
