New Gudauri

Most of the buildings in New Gudauri are ski in and ski out. It's a great resort for families as everything you need is in walking distance and it is safe for kids to walk around.  There are enough restaurants and bars that you won't get bored if you stay for a week.  The staff are extremely friendly.  

Great escape from Dubai, only a short flight! Apartments are great, accommodate 2 adults and 4 kids with a downstairs lounge to dune all the ski gear. Ski fields are much smaller than Europe but still plenty of options, the lift network is great and all modern. Ski hire is available onsite and equipment is great. 

Just 50meters between the hotel entrance and the gondola.  Out of bed and on the slope!  The locker room with space for the equipment and heating were very convenient, although having to go down the stairs with the ski-boots at the end of the day was a bit challenging.
Warm rooms, hot water, cosy furniture.  Nice nice :-)
Lady at the reception was not so friendly but... rest was great!

New Gudauri Gondola Stay

Fantastic location

At the time of this review, July 2018, the whole area called New Gudauri is under massive construction and it is not a welcoming scene for tourists. It seems that the work will go on till winter..
Rooms are available for rent there and while the rooms may be very good, the whole neighborhood is not welcoming.
Think twice !

New Gudauri is in Construction

Not to be misunderstood, we visited Tbilisi last summer and we were very pleased with what we’ve experienced so we decided to try more of Georgia and book a ski holiday. We arrived in Gudauri on December 24th to find out that all the slopes are closed due to lack of snow. The artificial snow guns were not working due to lack of water that was caused by a burst pipe (gossips on the street) however an unofficial network of taxi combined with chairlifts were giving the option of unofficial skiing. On the morning of 25th first slope was open but only 1 lift or 3 lifts tickets were sold, to be changed to selling 1 day ski pass after lunch time. From this day on, despite the snow fall the ticket counter will only sell 1 day sky passes, meaning that every day we had to queue up for min 30 min to buy a ticket. Ticket counter will only open at 10 AM, at the same time with chairlift and close at 16 00, one hour before closing the slope, only selling tickets for the day. There was no option for online ticketing so we had to put up with endless queues. As the time passed, the management decided to open more slopes, however none of them were ever trimmed so off piste conditions with allot of rocks. Back to the hotel, from January 1st there was no running water until we left on 4th, very noisy tourists, food smell (majority cooking in their rooms), skis depot not heated. Why visit Gudauri in 2019? If you are after a low budget escape, you are a ski/snowboard beginner and plenty of time to loose. Why it is not for me (at least in 2019-2020? I believe that time is the most expensive resource of our lives and we have to spend it well, we have to little of it to waste it on cost effective solutions, especially when it comes to holidays, I hope that people in tourism business will understand and respect it. Let’s keep one eye on Gudauri, it has breath taking landscapes, wonderful people, great potential for skiing but a very unprofessional management. It take a small effort to turn bad to good. I hope that my post does not affect some of the great people I met there, however, I feel that it’s my duty to say it as it is and help people improve.

Not for me, not for many but ok for others

We’ve booked them through bookingcom where they advertise themselves as a hotel mentioning somewhere down the description that it’s an apart hotel. For quite a price (130€) you get a tiny hotel room with a parking view with absolutely no hotel facilities. No lobby, no restaurant, no place to store luggage, no nothing. 

There’s no even a proper entrance, you’ve got to crawl with you bags through the blocks of ice on a parking and then you enter into a dark hall that looks like a basement really with a receptionist who knows nothing and god knows what are his responsibilities. Actually if you have a problem you have no one to speak to. There’s a dozen of administrators and nobody could be of any help and at the end they all say it’s not a hotel, these are private apartments so contact the owner, but we don’t have his number. 

There’s a nicer version of this at the center of the compound that’s called Suits, but it is also far from being a hotel and the receptionists are not helpful either. 

The rooms are absolutely not noise isolated, it’s like if we slept in a house of cards. The neighbors on one side were watching TV till late, on other side they were parting and we heard every word from both sides. 

All the restaurants are out and on Saturday night it was quite a mission to find a table.

On the morning everything is closed until 9, so you have nothing to do but stay in your room if you’re an early bird. 

It is located just in front of the sky lift which is great. 

The sky lifts are opened from 10 am till 4 pm at the higher levels and the lowest one closes at 5 pm. They are quite modern though and the slopes are great. 

A big problem with public toilets. 

Heart breaking mountain landscapes, but it’s better to stay at some hotel down the hill although you’d need to drive every day to and from the slopes. 



Not a value for money 

We stayed as a family in private apartment on the second floor at New Gudauri 4.
 Pros:
- location is 300 meters from lower gondola station, small groceries, ATM, nice cafe Meatloaf 
-Room condition was new and fully stocked with essentials

Cons: 
- apartments are absolutely not noise or smell isolated, you hear and smell everything what happens at your neighbors 
- Neighbors are 100% local workers (!!!) that stay by 10-15 people in one room (!!!) who drink and smoke until 5 am every night. Even after our several asks through the night, they just ignored us. Epic final was when one of them got absolutely drunk and was threatening us. We had to call police and only after that we had 2 hours of sleep.

To resume: if you plan to have good sleep after ski day, find some other place to stay!
