Gite du Calme

A beaitiful place, a charming owner and a wonderful stay. I loved it and I highly recommend this place.

amazing owner....amazing house!!!! lovely breakfast!!!

Started in Bordeaux with a visit to Cite du Vin and the wonderful Picasso exhibition then on to Saintes and surrounding villages.  There’s plenty to do but in 40C+, the Gite du Calme and Studio (Where I stayed) were a welcome oasis. The swimming pool and gardens are immersive, giving a spot for everyone to sit in shade or sun. The studio and gite are made of stone so are nice and cool. Julia, the owner, is a delight and knowledgeable about places to go in the area. We had a couple of fun evenings, with food and drinks, at the nearby guinguettes. You can also swim in the rivers if you prefer wild swimming. I believe there’s an excellent nite club in Saintes for the party people too!

Traveling from tenerife to london i had to stop for a night to rest in this amazing piece of paradise , the place is breathtaking and the has all the confort of a super hotel much better , quite calm super clean , i really felt home , in many years traveling this place is in top 3 now ,

Gite  du Calme is a lovely house in a wonderful setting, and our host Julia was so helpful and friendly.I would highly recommend Gire du Calme for a quiet relaxing stay.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Julia's place for the total of 3 nights because of a wedding nearby! Julia made us feel at home straight away by inviting us for a glass of wine after we arrived. We loved our room, the garten with the pool and the overall hospitality! If we are ever in the area, we will make sure to stay at Gite du Calme again for sure. :-)

Gite de Calme aptly named it is just that, peaceful,location, very warm welcomeset in Charente countryside, easy access for Cognac, SaintsComfortable spacious gite, well equppedWifi was a bit hit and miss

Excellent property, comfortable room, lovely area.  The owner was very helpful when we hit a bump with the reservation.  She also recommended a place for dinner that we thoroughly enjoyed.

We rented the whole property for two weeks and what a great choice we made. On arrival, the lovely owner,Julia introduced herself and gave us a full run down on the facilities and we were then left to totally relax for the next fortnight.
I can honestly say that I have never unwound so completely and so quickly on any other holiday, Gite du Calme does what it says on the box!

We took Boris,our two year old Giant Schnauzer with us and he revelled in the 2 acres of grounds. The only drawback for him was that the weather was so hot,we had to confine him to the coolness of the gite for parts of the day,for his own welfare but this was after I’d taken him for his daily walk in the surrounding vineyards or the seemingly endless forest trails that back onto the property.

I’ve visited The Charente in the past and know how beautiful the area is,endless vineyards and sunflower fields,with unspoilt,world class beaches an hour’s drive away. The people are friendly but you will need whatever school French you’ve learned. 

Fabulous host,fabulous place and one we will definitely be returning to.

Great relaxing stay!

The most relaxing holiday ever

This is a fantastic place to stay! We stayed for 3 nights with our 2 year old son and 2 dogs and could not have been made to feel more welcome. The room was lovely with all sorts of toys for our little one to play with and tea/coffee for us. Breakfast was included and lovely. The location is peaceful and yet within easy reach of cognac. We would definitely return and would highly recommend to anyone!

A little gem

Surrounded by vine yards this beautifully refurbished farmhouse was a great find.  The standard of internal furnishing is excellent and each bedroom is large and provides great views of the garden. 

The kitchen is in the farmhouse style and a real centre point of the property. 

The garden is large and secluded with a pool that affords nearly 12hrs of sun coverage.

The farmhouse is clean and has all the facilities you could need.

It's easy to find and the signposting helps

Julia is very attentive and 'cares' about your experience with recommendations for restaurants, days out etc 

We will return as all the ingredients are mixed correctly here for a great family holiday. 

A real gem with everything you'll need 

You will love this Gite!. Our room was at the to of the stairs, it was charming and comfortable with a large private bathroom. The stairs are steep and can be challenging, but worth three climb.Julia is an excellent hostess. She made us feel welcome and at home. Her place has a good vibe and it is so nice to wake up in the morning in a mix of forest and grape vines (Cognac about 15 kilometers away).Our breakfast was a mix of breakfast trifle (a dish from Julia's British roots), hearty homemade bread and homemade jams from her fruit trees, delicious yogurts and coffee and tea.I'm coming back Julia and Daisy!XO Sandra and Doran

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE

Without a doubt this was the best bargain in France.   In the first place Julia is lovely.  What an amazing host.    You want dinner  - there it is.  You want to know about the area - she will tell you.   You need anything - there she is.     In the second place the Gite has lovely grounds that you just imagine you are a lord or something in a different era.   Thirdly the rooms are spacious and comfortable with all amenities.   And WIFI is everywhere.    I have stayed in many 5 star hotels and not been any where near as satisfied. And all for so little cost.   You have got to be kidding.  Will definitely be back when in area.   Bravo.

A unique little gem of a b&q which surpassed every expectation! With just a few rooms on site, but very nicely presented throughout we had a wonderful stopover on our way down to Bordeaux. Although we had a very late check in due to a long journey down, we were warmly welcomed by our host (an English expat and her family) and shown to our room which was not only incredibly comfy but also backed on to a faboulus large and tranquil garden with a swimming pool area and lots of space for our little dog to explore and play.  The homemade breakfast in the morning was exceptional, and our host did everything she could and more to make us feel not only welcome, but also incredible at home! The large kitchen and living area available for the guests to use is also a huge bonus! My only regret is that we did not have more time to stay on; but we will be back to explore area further! Wonderful place!

A unique gem which surpassed every expectations!

What a wonder this little B&B is. After so many dry B&B experiences, it's been a delight to arrive in this convivial B&B with it's oversized, super clean, well presented rooms. It's communal 8 seated breakfast bench, home made jams, delightful surroundings and the calm and wonderfully social, ex-Londoner owners Julia and Robert. Thanks for a very relaxing stay, I needed it!
