Hotel Alameda

The Hotel Alameda is centrally located in San Salvador. It's clientele is largely local when it caters to events such as wedding receptions, but it also serves as a safe and clean hotel utilized by a number of ngos, such as SHARE El Salvador. The people are nice, but there is not a whole lot of English spoken. The food in the restaurant ranges from plain, ordinary Salvadorian fare to fairly elaborate creations. Rooms are clean and the help honest, at least per our experiences. The bathrooms are functional but not fancy. As always in El Salvador, drink only bottled water. Ask for an interior room--the rooms facing the Alameda Roosevelt are very noisy day and night because of traffic. Not as fancy as the Sheraton by any means, but, then, you are not trapped in an Americanized environment, either! We have stayed here twice and would recommend it.
