Baron Hotel Cairo 

Over the past decade the Baron Hotel has become my regular accommodation when passing through Cairo. It is a sturdy mid-range hotel, offering all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay, and staff that is as attentive and accommodating as it is cheerful. At 2025’s end, a fine standard double room was running about US$100 — good value for money. Undoubtedly there are many other hotels around Egypt’s sprawling capital of which one could say the same, so let’s home in on the make-or-break consideration: location. Baron is not at the city center, nor by the Pyramids, nor at the gate to Khan el-Khalili. Indeed, it is at a bit of a distance from all of these. Its locational advantage is proximity to Cairo airport, less than ten minutes away (insha’allah), in the comfortable fin-de-siècle Heliopolis district. It sits between two Metro stations on the #3 line, Koleyet el Banat (2 blocks away) and Ahram (6 blocks), giving you speedy and ultra-affordable access to most places around the city. And when it’s time to head off from Cairo, you again appreciate the short trek to the airport.
