Just returned from Vista Sol on Monday.  We had an ocean view room which was wonderful!  The bed and pillow was the most comfortable one we have had in the Dominican.  We have been to six different resorts.  The beach was beautiful.  The whole resort was extremely clean and well kept.  The buffet did not have as much selection as others, but we were more than happy with it.  The American Grill and Gourmet restaurants were excellent. The booze is not watered down like some of the other resorts.  The overall value is excellent. If you are looking for a very relaxing vacation this is the place to go.  Don't let some of the bad reviews fool you.  A lot of people have very high expectations but don't want to pay a high price.

I returned to the Vista Sol for the 4th time Feb 21st to March 7th. I had a fantastic time and it was so nice to see all my friends that still work there. I was greeted with smiles, hugs and kisses. I think this speaks for itself when the same staff are there year over year. The check in staff are wonderful and if you have any questions they are more than happy to help you out and resolve any issues.
Where I travel alone I had asked for a specific building on the second floor and was not disappointed as they honored my request. My room was beautiful and the maids did a wonderful job cleaning it for me each day. 
The food was great at the a la cartes and at the buffet. They renovated the main buffet and the beach buffet this year. This resort does upgrades every year which keeps it fresh and new.
The beach never changes, it is beautiful and there are plenty of trees if you want shade.
The bartenders at all the bars are wonderful. They are always smiling and you can always share a joke or two with them.
The only negative about this resort is the wine. It is terrible, however, I would never let that influence my decision to return. If you walk off the resort and turn left it is only a 10 min walk to the grocery store and you can buy some wine there and bring it back and put it in your fridge. I would just take a bottle down to the bar and they would keep it there for me when I wanted a refill. 
Overall I love this place and will return......in 5 weeks actually.....will see you all again soon...

First, let me say that the only other country we have been to in the South is Cuba, so that is the only comparison I can make.
We stayed at Vista Sol from February 28 to March 14. We did not have a printed itinerary with us, so there was a delay at check in, however, Angel was very accommodating and helped us get sorted out.
We decided to upgrade to an ocean front room in the VIP section. We have no idea what any of the other rooms were like, but we were quite pleased with ours. The room was just being readied as we arrived and the ocean view was breathtaking. We had read about the beds being hard and this is true, however we did not mind at all and slept very well. We were also only steps from the beach which was awesome. The upgrade included a bottle of rum, canned beer in the fridge which was replaced daily and an hour at the spa which we did not take advantage of. We also had our own private beach area with cabana beds and our own bar which served beer in cans rather than in tiny plastic cups.
The beach seems narrow compared to beaches we have been on in Cuba and although they were cleaned every morning, there was some vegetation on the beach and in the water at times.
The weather was great during our two week stay, with only a couple of days overcast and windy and it only rained for about two hours our entire stay.
We had read reviews that complained of an unhappy staff. We did not find this for the most part. Most staff seemed happy that we were there and were very helpful with only a couple of exceptions, but you can’t expect people to be happy 24/7 can you?
We had also read that it can be a challenge for the staff to understand English. We found this to be true of many staff, however, they did try hard to understand and we also learned a few simple phrases in Spanish which they appreciated!
The fitness centre is well equipped but small. With more than four or five people in it, space if tight.
We were lucky enough to get to two foam parties which they have at the main pool every Wednesday. These are a blast! There are two other pools which are quieter and which we spend most of our time at. Each has it’s own bar with the main pool having a swim-up bar.
We had eight a-la-carts during our stay, the Mexican and Italian being our favorites.
We found the food in the buffet to be good. You can get omelets or eggs made to order in the morning and they have a pasta bar in the evening. At lunch we usually ate at the beach snack bar where we could get hotdogs, hamburgers, pizza (if there was any left) and chicken which was delicious. They also have pasta, veggies and ice-cream cones.
We took two excursions, the country safari and the catamaran to Saona Island and enjoyed both. The only issues we found were the amount of garbage everywhere off the resort – piles of it along the streets and along the side of the roads everywhere. Our guide said that was a result in a lack of education, but I don’t buy that. You don’t need a high school diploma to know not to throw garbage all over the place. It was quite disgusting. I could not imagine living like that. This is something we have never seen in our many trips to Cuba.
There is also a lot of begging off the resort with people trying to sell you junk or get you to pose for pictures and then demanding money. This is also something we have not experienced in Cuba.
I’m not sure if we will return to the Dominican Republic, but overall we were quite happy with our stay at Vista Sol and would recommend this resort to others who may be considering a vacation in Punta Cana, D.R.

Very enjoyable.  Beach was beautiful, room was great.  Food not good! Everything in the buffet was cold except for French Fries and pasta. Beef and ribs were tough and grissly. Very hard to get coffee served.  Desserts bland and fruit not appealing and tasteless. Entertainment after foam party was extremely raunchy, especially with children presiding.

Second trip to the Dominican Rep and we really enjoyed the experience at this hotel. The premises are well maintained by very friendly staff who try their best to speak English. The beach area is very clean and inviting, especially with entertainment and activities provided by Animation. Big shout out to Francisco and crew who orchestrated the surprise on stage for my daughter's engagement. We appreciated your help immensely. The pools are always clean and the buffet area and bars welcoming. We will definitely be back for more visits and the wedding. 

The resort was very nice and the staff was very friendly.  The buffet was ok, it had different options. The rooms were nice. The resort has 4 different a la carte restaurants you can make reservations for if you want something other than the buffet.

The property is gorgeous.   And that beach!  Beautiful!  The food was ok.  Lots of it.  I do however have two serious complaints:  the house white wine was undrinkable.  It didn't come out of a bottle.   It must have been made from a wine kit.  One can only drink so many rich sweet cocktails!  My second complaint: the theatre is advertised as wi-fi free.  Not so. I got dinged to the tune of $300!!!  Shameful!  But overall it was a good vacation.   Staff fantastic although few could speak English. 

Smaller resort which was nice.  Our building #14 was centrally located to everything.  Found the place to be very clean, especially the outside bathrooms.  Food was quite good.  Chicken, pork loin, pasta, ice cream - yummy.  Mexican a la carte was very good.  Italian and BBQ was good as well.  Beach was beautiful. Everything was great...the weather when we went was pretty breezy, but still warm and it rained sometime during each day. No biggie. Loved the Coco loco drinks. 

The resort was perfect for my annual five day moms getaway.  Staff was very friendly and accommodating and room was clean with an ocean view from the balcony and easy access to to the beach and all three pools.  The buffet had many food choices and changed it up every day to accommodate all guests.  

I took my family to Punta Cana Vista Sol. From reading the list of reviews I wasn't sure what to expect. I was impressed by the friendliness of staff and the upkeep cleanliness of my room.  The buffet was ok but the A La Cartes were nice (Mexican, Italian and others but did not do the BBQ). 

I was impressed by the evening activities at 9:30pm. There was a very talented acrobatic performance that reminded me of cirque to soleil, but without selling out hundreds to watch it. The international performance was also excellent. 

The daily beach activities were fun. The beach and pool were nice to enjoy with the family.  The foam party was a hit and my family and I enjoyed it. We greeted our Spanish friends by opening up in some spanish. They loved it and the dialogue was welcoming. Everyone was friendly.  

Overall it was a good experience. My little one did get a diarhea which was unfortunate.   overall it was a good experience. Would I visit again. Probably not. I would probably choose another resort only to take in and enjoy difference experiences.

Well manicured property and nice level walkways too. Bathrooms well maintained and newer. Night entertainment was good. Buffet was ok but boring after 2nd day. 4 al a cartes, with French one being our favourite. Buffet service(water, coffee, utensils, and cleanup) was poor. Beach was great, clean. Security present on beach - so beach vendors not an issue. Property layout was nice...everything within short walk. 3 separate pools gave you options. Free Wifi at theatre was best idea we've seen, keeping congestion away from lobby.
