This place in La Fortuna is so lovely! It's located in a quiet part of the city, but on only a few minutes walk from all the nice restaurants and bars. 
Grethel was such a warm host. She told us about the environment, offered us an umbrella when it was raining, and is always willing to help when you have a question. 
The rooms are nice with plenty of room for your bags. The bathroom is clean. The garden offers a nice place to sit and have a drink by yourself during the evenings. We really have nothing negative to say about this place . We booked an extra night and would recommend this place to everyone who visits La Fortuna! Grethel, thanks for this lovely experience :) 


We stumbled upon Allamanda rooms 2 years ago to the date because at the time all the hostels in La Fortuna were full. A receptionist at one of the hostels we were disappointed about told us about the rooms. We were picked up from the full hostel and taken to a family home with private rooms in the back. We immediately felt welcome and loved the comfy bed and warm/hot showers. The cost was only $30 a night! As much as 2 people would spend at a hostel that wasn't private. Wow... what a score! 2 years ago, the rooms were just being completed and we were asked to recommend them to other travelers. 

Fast forward to this 3 week trip to Costa Rica. We did so much in 3 weeks! We were on a farm, at an arts and music festival, Envision, and wanted stayed in La Fortuna at Allmanda again. We choose to come back to Allamanda rooms because of the amazing hospitality that the family had for us and the prime location. I had to use google maps to remember where exactly it was and when I realized that it was now on the map I found a way to contact and reserve an air conditioned room for our stay for still only $30 a night. 

We were traveling with our 14mo old across Costa Rica. We were exhausted after spending a week at a farm, and a week camping on the hot beaches of Dominical. I didn't realize how the drive would take so long in our rental car. Being a foreigner and getting lost was imminent. I simply contacted our host and she waited up late for us! We were welcomed by her and the daughter who was excited to meet the baby. I felt like we were visiting family. We were taken to our room where the stress and anxiety from our long driving journey just melted away. Just by this simple act of hospitality, our spirits were filled with love. 

We stayed 5 nights at Allamanda. This was the end of our trip. Our young daughter felt so at home with the family friendly atmosphere. Toys and even baby bunnies "conejitos" were shared with her for her delight and entertainment. We used the stay as a chance to recover from our festival adventure, and to explore the jungle and hot springs around the volcano. We were able to ask any questions about the area and our host spoke good English to explain any local tips. The rooms are a great convenience to the downtown area. You can walk to an assortment of restaurants, a grocery store and souvenir shops. There are tours you can take to many local attractions. When we decided to go to a resort hot springs one day, our hosts husband even drove us there! Even though he didn't ask for payment, We made sure to add an extra $5 on our tab. 

The family is so willing to help and make you feel comfortable. A typical Tico breakfast can be made to order every morning you are there for only $5. The Abulita is so kind and really knows how to serve up a beautiful and filling breakfast. 

I would highly recommend staying here if you don't want the hustle and bustle of the La Fortuna strip of hostels. If you want privacy, good location, convenience and hospitality, Allamanda is ideal. I will definitely love to return to visit the family as well as explore more of what La Fortuna has to offer. If you happen to stay here, look for the dreamcatcher hanging from the room we came full circle to. We left a piece of us in La Fortuna because this place is truly magical. Pura Vida! 

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at Allamanda rooms very much. It is a good location, central with everything in fortuna within walking distance, but in a side street away from the bustle. Grethel and Milton have three rooms in a separate building behind their house. Our room was very clean, well maintained and despite of being one of the smaller rooms of our trip, it had everything we needed. Grethel is a warm-hearted host and very attentive. When my wife got sick during our stay she made sure we had everything we needed, she offered us to move into a room with a/c and even picked up medicine at the pharmacy for her. Grethel speaks very good English, which helped a lot in our situation. She also offers laundry service (clothes fine and back within a day) and breakfast for five dollars (which we did not try as we used the fridge to store our breakfast items in). I will definitely recommend to stay at Allamanda rooms as it is a good location with a local feel and great price value. 

This is a 3 room resident, the location is at a very quiet street, by the edge of center of La Fortuna, restaurants, supermarket, & stores in walking scope. The owner is a couple, who are very friendly, they introduced local activities & attractions to us. The room is small with simple facilities. Since the thin roof, the room was hot in day times. In front of the room, there is a shelter to protect sunshine, & guests can sit by the table for drinking or chatting. There is a refrigerator for guests, & they also can use their kitchen to prepare food. If you are a budget traveler & just want to find a basic accommodation, this maybe your choice.

Great position in town( not loud,and the centar is a minute walk). Room are small but very clean. The owner is great lady,she help us about transportation,recomend a good restaurant,anything you need. 
If you are looking for cheap,clean room and nice family this is a place to stay in La Fortuna.
