Mehood Lestie Hotel Shanghai Jiading New Town

If you are in Jiading, which admittedly is out in the sticks of Shang Hai, you can't go wrong here. The rooms are nice, especially for the price. I stayed here for three weeks. Front desk staff speak adequate English, and if you know a little bit of Chinese you can communicate with housekeepers easily. Please note that my Chinese is very poor but I know a few phrases. The staff were wonderful, particulary the housekeepers. They took good care of me. I had a bunch of clothes hanging on a portable clothesline, and they brought me a big rack to hang my wet laundry/overflow from the closet. However, once I figured out that they had same day laundry service at a reasonable price I discontinued the tedious hand washing of my clothes. A couple of other reviews mentioned the A/C not working. Keep in mind this is China, and if it's Oct-May, they don't use the A/C at all, never mind the temps. Instead, they gave me a fan, which was fine with the windows open. My room opened onto a secluded courtyard with a tiny fountain and beautiful trees. Breakfast was great, no complaints from me. I saw plenty of Western touches on the buffet but I typically stuck with the Chinese breakfasts. I went to the restaurant one night for dinner and it was quite delicious. No idea on the rates, though, because someone else picked up the bill. If you need anything there's Auchan hypermarket right across the street, and Old Town Jia Ding is steps out the door. There are about 3-4 banks on the same block so ATM and changing money is a breeze. Jia Ding museum is in the next block, and it's very nice. I particularly like the park right behind the museum, across the little lane from Auchan. For 10 kuai it's a very pleasant place to while away an afternoon isolated from the traffic and noise. All the cab drivers know how to get here, which is good since the Metro stops early. But, if you have some free time to walk, Jia Ding North metro stop is about a 15 minute walk. A nice stroll. Robinson's Galleria mall is about a 5-10 minute walk too. There are several KTVs withing walking distance. I tried about 4 of them on our trip and they were all pretty good. Next time I go to Shang Hai, I will most likely stay here. Only reason I wouldn't is if it were more convenient to stay up the road a little bit in Huaqiao or Anting. Overall I really enjoyed my three weeks here and would recommend with no reservations. OK, maybe one - if you are a little bit adventurous and can speak at least a few words of Chinese.
