Shanghai Celadon Theme Hotel

I stayed here for just under two weeks in November, and switched rooms a few times. I'm giving this hotel a very good rating because of its price and location. Laoximen subway station is only a minute or two away. Xintiandi is only a 10-15 minute walk away. You can even walk to The Bund in 25 minutes or so (I walk at a pretty brisk pace, so maybe add a few minutes to those times). If you are here with friends, there is a cool lounge/sitting area on the 4th floor, but the hotel staff does not allow you to stay out there much past 10 PM, since there are rooms right across from it, including the owner's (we kind of overstayed our welcome in the lounge a few nights). The rooms are pretty clean, although there is some minor damage on the walls, and one room I stayed in had some mold on the ceiling. The bathrooms are clean, but the showers in some of the rooms are not the greatest. It all depends on which room you get; of the 4-5 rooms I saw here, none had the same bathroom setup. Some advice: If you are facing the hotel, try to get a room on the right side of the hotel. The reason is at about 4:30 in the morning, whoever is on the 2nd floor starts hammering (I never figured out what they were actually doing). It gets pretty annoying after a few days. Also, there are stairs on the left side of the hotel which lead to ground level. The doors leading out to the stairs are always open. Don't bother closing them, they will just be opened again shortly after. If you have a room next to the doors, you get a nice, cold breeze blowing under your door. This is another reason to stay on the other side of the hotel. If you've stayed in other hotels in China, such as Super 8 or Home Inn, you will be fine. If you are coming from another country and are not used to Chinese budget hotels, this might not be the place for you. One final note: the guys at the front desk are very helpful and friendly. They understand more English than they let on. They helped me with quite a few things.
