This place put me in mind of a Chinese Travel Lodge or Premier Inn. I had a double bed in my room there was plenty of space, the place was clean and the bathroom good, I did have a little trouble with the toilet flushing but with the assistance of google translate I was able to report this to reception and it was solved whilst I was out exploring. The staff didn't speak very much english, but if you are travelling solo in China without much mandarin you'll need to be well equipped with a translator on your mobile and phrasebooks anyways and the staff were happy to try and help communicate. Check out was 12 and my train out of Shanghai was late in the evening, the hotel allowed me to leave my luggage behind the desk which was great too. Overall a great experience and the hotel was located just off East Nanjing Road, minutes away from the underground couldn't recommend it enough for budget/solo travelers.
