We just love this place. It has the traditional Chinese look and feel but with all the modern facilities (it even has heated floor). We got the best room (#201). It has the best view. They are so generous in leaving excellent Chinese tea for guests to enjoy in our room and tea hall. 

My husband told me that this is an old hotel when he booked it, I did not know what to expect. Funny that when we got in there, I thought this might not be safe, as we had to lock the room door with a padlock from outside. It was safe. It is traditional, of course there are no soundproofing, it is a really old house, wood and all that but inside the room, the amenities, the room was refurbished. I think they kept the foundations as original but refurbished the rest. 

Breakfast was quite good and this is located in the center of the old town. Around it were cinemas, plazas and lots of restaurants and cafes. 

To get into the hotel, an attendant picked us up where the taxi dropped us off and walked with us to the hotel. Travelling from hotel to airport, they did the same thing but with their arranged transport for us. Service was good, all smiling faces and every one trying to communicate in English with us which we appreciate so much.

Friendly staff, a delicious breakfest. Hotel is well situated into a (new) pedestrian area with lots of boutique shops and restaurants. We had the big room in the first floor, and it was worth it. Air condition/heater was good enough, you won't have cold during colder days, if you turn it on the maximum.

We stayed in the Deluxe suite for two nights. 

The property is located in one of the older traditional Anhui-style houses, renovated and refitted into a little cafe downstairs, along with a garden-suite below and rooms upstairs. It is located in a great and safe location aka the "new" old street, nothing to worry about - many little cafes and restaurants right at the doorstep, supermarket across the street, IMAX cinema, etc. It is an easy 10 minute to the famous Tunxi Old Street (a long stretch of traditional shophouses selling souvenirs and food, though now heavily touristy and commercialised), and another 20min past the Old Street you'll get malls and other local/less touristy street stalls.

As for the property itself, it is definitely an experience staying in an accommodation like this. It's a mix of old and modern. Old being the wooden flooring, walls and ceiling, modern being the toilet fit-out and the bed. Overall, the room was clean despite looking 'ancient'. The ladies and the guy running this were all very friendly, polite, and helpful. I would say their service is 5 stars. I spoke Mandarin with them but I have seen them try their best to speak English with another foreign guest. 

The only slight downside is the thin walls and flooring, making it easy to hear the creeks and sounds from other rooms. Might not be very desirable if you're a light sleeper.

Wonderful Stay at Su House

Booked this place after reading great ''authentic'' reviews.  

We had ground floor unit opening on the the gloomy central courtyard (not at all like the pictures).

The old doors to the room barely close so there is no acoustic privacy. You hear everything in the bar and kitchen adjacent and the renovations going on.

The floor above is a simple layer of wood so you will hear everything going on there too.

The floor is bare concrete ( bedroom, shower stall, toilet ) and no heating so you we had to sleep with our heads below the blankets to preserve any heat.

The mattress is the hardest I have ever experienced in many decades of travel.

Here the ''Boutique'' concept is taken to mean anything goes !  There is even a light switch in the shower stall ! Is electrocution part of the boutique experience ?

We had booked 3 nights but left the next morning and were given the run around for 2 hours to grind us down in accepting a partial refund.

We booked through a very well known web site and when we tried to post a review we found that the hotel had changed our status to a ''no-show'' preventing us from posting.  They're very clever in managing their online presence.

Too bad because the neighborhood is nice, but this place does not provide the basic comfort unless you're willing to accept anything for the ''boutique'' label.
