J Plus Hotel by YOO

My husband found a great deal for staying at this Causeway Bay hotel, only a block from the Causeway Bay train station. The hotel staff were unfailingly helpful and friendly, booking massages for us with a local salon, and advising on the best bus and train routes. We guessed that the building must have been an apartment block some years ago from the layout of the rooms. The bedroom area was separated by a filmy curtain from the sitting area which backed on the kitchenette, itself backed onto by the bathroom. The wardrobe was larger than most hotels too. We worried that it would be too noisy but the concierge was correct when he said the noise died down at 10pm in the area. On our first night we were hungry and saw a Chinese restaurant over the road called Din Tai Fung which we'd never heard of. It turns out it was a Taiwanese worldwide chain which turned out absolutely delicious dishes .- and patrons - swiftly and efficiently. In the lobby was the coffee/breakfast/snack area where you could help yourself to bottles of water, Jelly Belly beans, coffee during the day and beer and wine at happy hour. The breakfast was perfect for a small hotel - pastries, bread for toast, coffee machine, juice, fresh fruit, cheese, and boiled eggs. So we were so dismayed to discover that on the day we were checking out to go over to our next hotel in Kowloon for the next two days to vary it up, that was their last day of operation. As a goodwill - and goodbye - gesture, the minibar was free for you to help yourself which was just incredible. They also had one of the handy mobile phones which meant we could tether our Iphones to get free Wifi throughout our trip to the Hong Kong expo, and find our way around without racking up a huge roaming bill. If it wasn't scheduled for demolition - no doubt to make an apartment building - we would stay there again.
