The Nelson House Bed & Breakfast

Congenial hosts made us feel welcomed in their well maintained home.  Breakfast was excellent.  One small drawback was private bath across hallway.

We had a wonderful stay. The owners were warm and inviting. It is a charming B and B nestled in a small town. Breakfast was simply delicious. I highly recommend you stay here.

Wonderful experience, beautiful old house, very clean, super friendly people, great breakfast will be back again if ever in the area.

Our stay at The Nelson House was a great, great experience. The hosts (including a very friendly puppy!) were very welcoming and kind. The place itself was beautiful and quaint, with lots of cute decor. The room was very quiet - especially the air conditioning - which made it very easy to sleep.Now, the highlight of this place is their amazing breakfast. Guests can choose from two different menus, served with coffee or tea (there are a lot of tea bags to choose from!) and a small selection of fruits. Would definitely recommend for a stay near the Halifax airport!

While my wife and I were in Eastern Canada, we stayed in four different properties. This was our second favourite. The people who own and operate the property are very friendly and will do what they can to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The breakfast they make is made to order, fresh, and very delicious. The house and rooms are decorated in a very tasteful and quaint manner. It's like staying at your grandparent's house, only better. I love the old-world charm and character. They clearly put a lot of time and thought into how they decorated the house. Our room was quite comfortable, which brings me to my one and only gripe: The beds are too small. Our room had a double bed, which is far too small for two adults. I would suggest the owners invest in at least a queen bed for the room. There is enough space for one. Your guests would very much appreciate the extra room.

Cottage Country Charm

The house itself is older, but that is what makes it charming. Although we came in late and had to leave early Marla was quite accommodating and we did our best to be quiet and not disturb anyone. Delicious waffles for breakfast and the table setup was like something from 75 years ago. Delightful stay not far from the downtown and Halifax airport make it very convenient.

The Nelson House is perfect for anyone looking for a place to stay outside of Halifax but still close (by car) to the airport.  We stayed for one night and got a good, comfortable night’s sleep followed by an excellent breakfast.  The friendly hosts had good suggestions for local ‘touristing’ options (the nearby (by car) Shubenacadie Provincial Wildlife Park was was fun). The B'n'B is easy walking distance to Whistlers Pub (which offered a varied menu of above-average ‘bar food’ – the fish and chips were the best I had on our 10 day East coast trip).  There are also numerous fast food and grocery options in the shopping area near the highway (about 1 km away).

Pleasant stay, convenient location

The beautiful Nelson House B&B was a welcoming sight to see. I’m a sucker for verandas.
We had the Country Room which was light, spacious and furnished with everything we needed.
The breakfasts were awesome! Waffles were so fluffy and eggs Benedict were delicious, with Marla’s twist on the hollandaise sauce.

Nelson House B&B

This was our first stay at a B&B. It was a great first experience! Marla and Darrell were wonderful hosts - very welcoming and they worked to make sure we had everything we needed. The room was very comfortable and the breakfast was everything that others posted. The house had a great ambiance and was very nicely decorated. We enjoyed sitting by the fireplace in the evening and reading.

Would highly recommend - wonderful experience

We booked in very last minute when our flights shifted by 13 hours. Marla and Darrell were very hospitable and happy to help us out. Our stay was excellent from first communication to waving goodbye at the door. The room was comfortable and beautifully decorated and the house itself was just so lovely. Breakfast by the window was delish and dietary restrictions, even at the last minute, were easily met. 

Luckily, Our Flights Were Delayed

Excellent stay.  Marla and Darrell  are hosts extraordinaire.  We would recommend this lovely bed and breakfast to any traveller.  Thanks Marla for all your hard work and all the exceptional suggestions for enjoying our stay in Nova Scotia. Marla was very accommodating to a vegan diet.  Thanks again.  We will be back!!!

It was our second time staying at this property and it was just as good as the first. The owner was very friendly and accommodating when we needed to check-out early. The ensuite bathroom was nice and the beds were comfortable. Definitely would recommend, as it's around a 30 minute drive to the Halifax airport.

We enjoyed our 1 night stay at the Nelson House B & B.  We stayed in the Victorian Rose room which was quaint and pretty in pink.  The area is quiet and we had good night’s sleep.  Breakfast was delicious.  We enjoyed checking out the gardens and had a great gardening chat with Marla.  Thank you Marla and Darrell for your hospitality.
