The Cove

The Cove is an absolute treasure! Always a highlight of any visit to Cape Breton and the Canso-area of Nova Scotia. Nikki, Dolly, Rose and the entire Cove Team are the most gracious and friendly people I have ever met! The ambiance of sitting in the dining room with the most spectacular views of the shimmering waters of the Canso Straight and sampling the most delicious scallops, Torpedo Shrimp and sumptuous blueberry crumble dessert is such a treat. Thanks to everyone at the Cove for a fabulous season, looking forward to seeing you ALL in 2025!

We stayed for two nights and had a puppy with us. We loved that we could get supper and breakfast and eat outside at the picnic table or at the gazebo with our pup. The rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable, the place was quiet (and just so cute with the lighthouse on the property and water around). We had chowder soup for one of the nights and it was the best we had in a LONG time. We did not get the name of a young lady, who made us Irish Coffees and brought them to our room and they were delicious. We would absolutely stay if we are in the area. Highly recommend this place to anyone!

We were welcome by a wonderful lady at the front desk. this place is so adorable with amazing staff Everything was so spica d span clean. We had dinner at the restaurant in the cove was great the staff were so busy they have a young fellow singing and playing his guaitar   he was very good The owner was talking to everyone she is a sweet lady so happy and her staff love her The rooms are so clean we had room 211 was freshly redecorated We have been.  Married for 46 years and always had a queen or king bed. All they had was  2 doubles. We moved them together There wasn’t a spect of dust any where So this is how clean this place is I would strongly recommend staying here the breakfast is very good too !

We bounced into this local motel restaurant with average expectations...... very pleasantly surprised the meal of pan fried haddock and Ribs were excellent.  The portions were very large. The half rack of ribs was a full rack at any other restaurant I have been to. Our waitress Darlene was a joy to deal with. Will certainly stop here again


Beautiful location, cabin was clean and comfortable and the price was very reasonable. The cabin has a rustic interior but we enjoyed it.

I enjoyed a gluten-free meal.  We were waited on quickly and our delicious food was served promptly with helpful wait-staff.  Thank-you!

PS: We only ate at the restaurant and didn't stay at the cottages or motel.

A 2x double bed cabin was only $129 per night plus tax.  Cabin itself was “good enough” for us - we didn’t plan on spending time in the cabin other than for sleep anyways so it was perfect.  Comfy beds, had a functioning washroom with stand up shower, mini fridge, coffee maker  and TV!  Wifi as well, although connection was not great.  Cabin was definitely dated - could use an update, but that would put prices up too so if you are not fussy they are fine as is ! 

For the price - I am giving an excellent review :) 

Great Restaurant on site and big gift shop!

This place was a great little spot! We booked a cabin for one night in our way to the Cabot Trail and it was clean and the bed was comfortable. They accepted pets and had a little beachy area to walk on as well. Very cozy and had great views of the mountains and not bad on cost either. Would definitely stay here again if I came back to the area.

Amazing food with a view! Large portions, fish and chips were amazing and so was the chowder. Super friendly staff and great service. Definitely a good spot to check out and enjoy some local food and company, very fresh

The cove Motel is one of those wonderful surprises one has on long trips. Just one night left us with a feeling of a miss. Very nice room. Spacious and comfortable. One of the best WIFI experiences I have had. Special commendation to the bathroom. Both anti slipping mat in the bath and handles. Very considerate. 

The location is beautiful. It was sad to stay there such a short time. If ever I am again in Nova Scotia I will make it a point to stay there more.

On a separate review I will tell my enthusiasm about the restaurant

Nova Scotia's most delicious food!

Hidden but convenient with Canadian understatement and charm.  Almost 3/4 mile off the highway but easy to find as long as you're paying attention for the entry signage Cove Motel offers a beautiful site with east facing views over the water.   The rooms are clean with very dated furniture which adds to the charm in a quirky way.  Service, check in and check out couldn't be more pleasant or easy.

A little piece of Paridise

This motel is on a very nice site on the Strait of Canso.  The staff were very friendly and helpful.  It is an older building, but has been well kept up, so it is clean and in very good condition.

We enjoyed dinner and breakfast in the restaurant.  There is a sun room with a good view of the Strait, but when it was busy, we found it quite noisy and a bit cool with the air conditioning on.  We preferred a table in the main building.

We only stayed one night, although others who were staying multiple nights were using this motel as a home base for day trips in different directions.

Great experience on my solo trip with 2 large dogs.  My double cabin, at the CAA rate of $107 a night can't be beat.  I know as I spent 2 months traveling thorough NS 
 Decor a bit dated but ideal for dogs. They weren't messing up anyone's white duvets!   Cabin had a little deck for 2 chairs so you could sit outside.  The grounds are spacious and you are surrounded by water.  It was great having a restaurant on site. Live music twice a week which is nice when you are older and solo.  

Staff were friendly and very helpful even when my dog got locked in the bathroom and did a bit of damage.  They were understanding and reasonable about the damage cost.

I loved the location as it was a quick drive to Cape Breton and I could leave the dogs when I wanted to explore on my own.  Port Hawesbury just across the causeway has all the shopping options. I even got my oil changed at the local garage recommended by Canadian Tire.   

Free washer and dryer was a plus.  I would have liked a microwave in the cabin but it was close by in the laundry room.

I would definitely go back.

Sept 8 - 22 2022

The room was clean, quiet and and comfortable.  The staff were friendly and pleasant.  The sea and sky vistas were spectacular.  Lots of room outdoors to wonder around and take in the views.  As we strolled the grounds we enjoyed breathing the fresh air wafting up from the salt water of the Canso Strait.  We had a very relaxing two days.  The restaurant was very decent  and the prices were reasonable.  The three of us very much enjoyed the pan fried haddock with a glass of Chardonnay!  We would come back!

Great prices, nice location

We were pleasantly surprised by our room considering the price we paid. It was spacious and spotlessly clean. We were happy to see the decent size fridge with a fairly good sized freezer for our ice packs and the nice water view. The one downfall was a very strong smell of room freshener which was almost ovewhelming until we opened the door and sat outside for a while. They could use a little updating but then the prices will go up so enjoy the retro feel. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We got a really good take out meal of chowder, calamari and mussels from the restaurant. It was nice to see that it came on a tray with real dishes and silverware saving the environment a little bit. Good value and enjoyable stay! Thanks!
