Waverley Inn

This charming inn is perfectly situated between the train station and downtown.  Restaurants, museums and other activities are within convenient walking distance.  Several city bus routes have nearby bus-stops.  The staff is friendly and helpful.  Complementary coffee and tea is available 24/7.  I enjoyed my stay and plan to return.

I've been staying at the Waverley Inn since either 1999 or 2000 - so for nearly twenty years.  I can't say enough good about the elegance and the staff at this inn.  It is THE place to stay if you've got a meeting in Halifax, or if you're wanting to see the sights for a few days in the city.  It's within walking distance of the VIA Rail and bus stations, the waterfront, and lots of shopping and restaurants.

Staff were all friendly and seemed to enjoy working at this charming inn, which in turn made us feel genuinely welcome. We stayed here at the beginning and end of our trip in two different rooms, each of which were spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was fine with quite a bit of choice. Check-out time at noon is very generous. Would definitely stay here again.

Beginning with the easy access on-site free parking to the convenient location for walking to the Citadel and the waterfront, the Waverley Inn was an ideal location for our first ever stay in Halifax.  The building was built in the 1800's and our room was like a visit to the home of someone's grandmother because of all the interesting antique furnishings!  The bed was comfortable, the room was clean and spacious enough and the bathroom contained nice amenities.  The daily included breakfast was varied and plentiful.

Stayed at this lovely inn last fall (September 2019). Had a nice time — staff friendly, breakfast food good, rooms nice and clean. Stayed in a room with two beds on/near the top floor. No elevator, an easy workout. An easy walk to the wharf area.

I visited actually about 5 years ago.   If you want to visit the past and what it was like to be noble and gentile, this is a great place to stay.   Don’t expect it to be a modern, cookie cutter hotel.   The furniture is victorian, high tea snacks in the afternoon, a sweet continental breakfast in the morning.     My daughter and I stayed together in a room downstairs and it was all in walking distance of so much of Halifax.   And yes, it is haunted.   Someone rattled our closet door knob in the night and woke us both.  In the morning, we realized there wasn’t even a door on the little closet!   

Character Historic Inn that is centrally located and just blocks from the Harbour Front Boardwalk.  Enjoy the home's restoration, bountiful antiques, and complimentary tea & coffee. Our room was up several flights of stairs. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Parking lot is on site. A standard continental breakfast is provided.

The Waverley is a an old property but well maintained.  We booked a Premier king room and were quite satisfied.  The room was large and the bathroom a good size.  A fridge an wine glasses.  There is a bit of outside noise but that is expected in any city.  The inn is easy walking distance from all downtown attractions.  The included breakfast is pretty standard and nothing special but this is true of many places.  Staff were pleasant and helpful. On site parking available at no extra charge.

This historic inn is centrally located, has helpful staff, a parking lot, and breakfast included. We were very pleased with our stay there. Easy to walk to harbour and bus lines. The sitting room is nice, beautifully furnished.

We booked rooms at the Waverley at the beginning and end of a 4 day bicycle ride. When we arrived we were booked into the Oscar Wilde room (apparently slept there sometime around the turn of the century). The room was spacious, with high ceilings,  antique furniture - and a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was included and consisted of the same offerings each day - a little variety would have been appreciated.

Great place to stay in Halifax

We had three nights at the Waverley which was apparently once frequented by the likes of Oscar Wilde and PT Barnum amongst others. Great location close to Pier 21 and the waterfront. The comfortable rooms reflect the Victorian elegance of the hotel although they're on the small side and with little to see from the windows. A pleasant lounge with internet access near the entrance and tea and coffee are always available in the lobby at no charge.
The only downside is the basement breakfast room which resembles a cafeteria of a bygone age and offers equally undistinguished fare which was such a poor contrast to the breakfasts we enjoyed everywhere in the Maritimes. Where were the fresh croissants, baguettes, pastries etc, surely they're not so difficult to obtain?  
Other than that, a good central base from which to explore everything Halifax has to offer.

Good rooms, poor breakfast

This hotel is beautiful, filled with history and well maintained. The rooms might be a little small for anyone who is used to the big chain hotels. 

It is so nice to see that history is really focussed on with this hotel. The antiques and decor are great! 

I would recommend anyone stay here. Unless you had mobility issues as the stairs might be tough. You could specify that you need a room on the first floor in that case, though.
