22 reviewsOur Family (12 in total ranging from the age of 2 to ...almost senior) chose the Grand Narrows Hotel for our trip and we all loved it. The Hotel had its heydays way back in the mid 1900's and has been a private home for several years now. It has been been restored beautifully and the old, wide, sturdy and solid wood staircase is beautiful. The bedrooms are spacious and have their own ensuite. The veranda is an awesome place to just relax, have a drink (or two..or three) look out in the lake (Bras D'Or Lake is a salt water lake) or take a nap. The kitchen and dining room as well as the large parlour room are spacious, well decorated and very clean. Terry and Elaine, the owners, were fantastic hosts. They live next to the hotel and were always ready to help and provide the full history of this Grand Narrows landmark. Grandchildren (5) loved the various hiding places....so, "hide and seek" was almost a daily game. If our travels take us back to Cape Breton...we will definitely stay at the Grand Narrows Hotel (aka...The MacNeils' house) All Cape Breton attractions were anywhere from 7 minutes (Heritage Village) to an hour (Cabot Trail, Fort Louisburg, town of Baddeck, Sydney, Igonish beach, etc..etc..) Mr Bell, yes Mr Graham Bell himself stayed there many a times on his travels to Cape Breton.
