The Island Inn

We stayed in the cabin for a ski weekend at Cape Smokey. Accommodations were excellent, breakfast included which was fantastic. The host were very accommodating and the facilities at the cabin were second to none. no issues and location to the hill excellent. we will return.

We landed at Island Inn without prior reservation at 9:00 PM after walking out of an awful three hour stay at overpriced Keltic Lodge. Our room was small but clean and comfy and our hostess couldn’t have been nicer, helping us find a takeout dinner and letting us eat in dining room.  The inn is comfortable and unpretentious and very reasonably priced with nice view of water. And there’s a somewhat friendly cat (not near guest rooms!) who added to the homey feeling. 

Definitely recommend.

We spent 2 nights at the Island Inn during a trip around Cape Breton soon after the April-May 2021 lockdown ended.  Our room was at the front and had a lovely view of the water with a comfy bed, a small desk (something we appreciated as we needed to check in with work), and a clean spacious bathroom. The owners were friendly and knowledgeable about the area. They were always masked in our presence and were clearly following all current covid protocols. They also made sure we had a yummy breakfast and made sure to ask about any dietary restrictions (not something that applied to us but always a good sign in my book).

The location is great as a place to base day trips in Highlands National Park and while during our visit there were only a limited number of options for lunch and supper, more opened each day we were there.  

One other note, there is an inn cat, but one who is passively curious about visitors but not overly affectionate. He's not allowed upstairs (there's a door blocking his way) and from what we could see mostly spends his time lounging outside or on a chair. He accepted a pat when offered but otherwise kept his distance.

My family and I stayed at the Island Inn for one night and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were in a room on the 2nd floor. The room, beds and bathroom were good for our stay. We had an issue with the shower that was promptly dealt with by the owners. Couldn't ask for more on a holiday weekend. 

The views from the Inn were gorgeous! The wrap around deck was nice for relaxing and enjoying the view. 

The breakfast was delicious. Our kids ate every bite. The coffee was so good! I wish I could have taken some with us. 

The owners were very friendly and helpful. They took time to get to know us, which was really appreciated!

We hope to return next summer for another stay, this time for longer!

The Island Inn was an awesome place for us to spend the night on our trip around the Cabot Trail. Tracy was so friendly during our last-minute booking and check-in. We were fortunate to be in a room with a fabulous view of the water (and the sunrise the next morning!). Rooms were spacious, comfortable and clean. Tracy was accommodating of our dietary restrictions, even when we forgot to tell her in advance (do tell her upon check in if you have dietary restrictions though and she will likely do what she can to accommodate for breakfast!). All around an amazing B&B experience. 

We stumbled upon this place while driving the Cabot trail and could not have been more lucky with what we found! It was incredibly reasonably priced and Tracy was lovely and accommodating from start to finish. 

The house was very clean and had a comfortable sitting area, a dining room with many tables, and a gorgeous balcony overlooking the water. Even in the brisk May air we couldn’t help ourselves sitting up there, the view is too beautiful to pass up! 

We went down to the sitting area after to play some board games and cards. There was lots of space so our group was able to keep to ourselves, but it is a good area to socialize as well. 

There is definitely something for everyone and Tracy was very helpful with restaurant suggestions and helped us plan out the rest of our drive with wonderful suggestions tailored to our interests!

I stayed for a two weeks for work. Perfectly located at the entrance of the main park with the an amazing view of the water.  The owners were very friendly and always checking in to see if we were comfortable.

From booking, to our arrival, til when we were leaving and Tracy reminded us of something we left behind, the interactions with the owner were wonderful! The inn is located right off the Cabot Trail and has a nice view from the dining area. There is no elevator and we were on the second floor. It was a basic room but the bathroom was SUPER CLEAN! More establishments should have that as a bragging feature especially when it's an inn/hotel. There was free parking and a nice wrap around porch with seating. Tracy was so kind and since we had been driving 7 hours throughout the day, she warmed up our dinner. The room didn't have a coffee maker, fridge or microwave. There isn't anything fancy like chain hotels but it has a homey feel. There is a couch in the dining area for guests to hang out. There is a house cat who wanders (I have allergies to cats and I wasn't bothered). There isn't cat hair everywhere; like I said, it's a very clean place. I am gluten and dairy free, so Tracy gave us fresh strawberries which was great at breakfast. It was also quiet...the walls are thin so you can pretty much hear people talking in the rooms above or beneath you. Overall, a good place to stop along the Cabot Trail.

Stayed at the Island Inn just before starting the main part of the Cabot Trail and indeed managed to drive halfway round and back on the day we arrived which was good. Friendly and helpful owners and lovely breakfast of blueberry pancakes and sausages was enjoyed. Nice walk to local beach and got tips of where to visit on the Cabot trail.

The B&B was in a very good location, easy to find and to get to. The room we had was good, although the bed and pillows were a bit uncomfortable. The food for breakfast was really good, there was a good variety. The hosts were also very nice and pleasant.

We were given room #9 at this B&B. Although a bit small, it was adequate. One thing about that room, all the electrical plugs were of the very old types, i.e. groundless. It creates a problem if you are using a computer or such a device. The breakfast was good and plentiful. Tracy, the lady of the house was very nice and helpful. It is a nice "Pied à terre" to travel anywhere on this beautiful island.

The perfect stop on the Cabot Trail

My husband and I and his parents (91 and 86) stayed here for one night on our three day trip along the Cabot Trail. We found this inn to be quiet and appreciated the friendliness and warmth of the owners (and their cat!). Our room was bright and attractively decorated and the bathroom was clean and tidy. The building was quirky...the floors sloped and rooms were an odd shape but that was part of the charm. While we didn't sit out on the verandah, it would have been quite lovely to spend some time there. The breakfast was adequate, not elaborate, and included all the regular items from toast and cereal to yogurt to coffee/tea. There is lots of parking and free wifi. While the road in front of the inn is busy during the day, it was very quiet at night. I could hear loons in the distance. We enjoyed a delicious dinner at the Seagull Restaurant which was a short drive away. Well worth a visit!
