Balcón del Valle

It's in a quiet safe location, but within 15-20 minutes easy walk of the main shopping area and plaza. It's 1 straight street so easy and we found it safe to walk back in the evening. The owner John was very friendly and welcoming and spoke English (really not that common). He was always ready to give advice and help on where to go, what to do etc. You can tell that he loves his hostal and he wants you to love it too. The reception is manned 24 hours a day, a great relief when our flight was delayed. The rooms are cleaned regularly. Wifi was available in the room but was really slow and kept losing connection; however, it was faster near reception and there is also 1 Internet screen (free). We had room 4 which had a window with outside light but not all rooms do. Basic breakfast is included in the price, consisting of juice, coffee and croissants. We had a shared bathroom which was large, clean, excellent shower and hot water 24 hours (no towels provided, so take your own). All of this for a really good price - we've paid more and stayed in worse during our travels. Finally, if you're travelling to Tilcara he will recommend a place. We took his advice and it's lovely, so thank you John.
