Proper country pub, packed with locals and a great atmosphere. Food was exactly what you think of when you imagine pub grub. Huge portions, tasty and exceptional value. Service good too. You won't leave here hungry.

The excellent reviews are justified. Fantastic food and service. Highly recommended. Food arrives quickly but all freshly cooked and hot. The curry was amazing and so were the chips. Gets busy so booking advisable

Had meal on Saturday  10 July Service  Beer Food all Great 10 out of 10.So returning today.If there is a better Pub than this in Cornwall I dont know where it is and doubt there is one. Have been here numerous times never had any  reason for complaint.

Had a lovely lunch here today after our walk on the moors. 

We had the lamb cobbler, steak pie with a lovely light puff pastry top and the chicken and bacon salad which was served with lean bacon and an usual but really nice addition of potato skins loaded with coleslaw. 

We had a fantastic meal out with friends here. A warm welcome was given by the staff and all of the food was fresh, piping hot and delicious. It was also good value for money and competitively priced. The portions were very generous sized and I was able to make changes to the items on my plate with no fuss given. I would definitely go back again and hopefully it will be soon. 

We went here for Sunday lunch with our daughter, her husband and two children. There was a huge selection, which meant everyone was happy. I had not read the comments here about the size of the meals, so we did have starters, which were lovely, but that did mean we struggled with the mains. Everyone was very happy with their choice, from the roast dinner, through beef in a giant Yorkshire pudding to fish and chips. The service was quick and friendly. We enjoyed it so much we came back ,as a couple, late in the week for a snack lunch, which again was very good.

We visited this place after venturing round the countryside for somewhere to eat. We stumbled upon the pub and were pleasantly surprised. There was a good atmosphere and we were quickly served and show into our seats. Unfortunately they run out of roast dinners (however it was late on a Sunday evening) however we both had lamb dishes that were both Delicious. As many other reviewers have stated the main meals are big and we were pleased that we didn’t choose a starter to begin with. There is also a good choice on the pudding menu but unfortunately we were too full! 

Booked a table as recommended and enjoyed our starters. Mains are massive!!!  Starters were a mistake!!  Delicious home cooked meals.  Recommend this lovely place.  Hubby very much enjoyed his duet steak and kidney pud. You could cut the beef with a fork it was that tender! Very friendly staff and customers.  

As we had not booked for lunch we were not sure of a table. When we arrived we were shown to a table already set up for two. They shortly came around and brought our menues and took our drinks order.
Our meal order was then taken and 20 minutes our meal arrived, knowing before hand the size of the starters we went straight for the main meal of which i had Bangers and mash and my wife had the hunters chicken, with no room for a desert when we completed our meal, once again a first class meal and first class service.

We arrived early during a very busy Sunday lunch service, but were greeted warmly and told that the landlord would be with us as soon as possible and we didn't have long to wait. The landlord and staff were warm, welcoming and professional throughout. We had the twin room which was a good size and well furnished with a comfortable sofa, as well as everything you would expect in an inn of this size, plus Sky TV. The bathroom was modern, with a good shower. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean and everything was very comfortable and relaxing. The bar and restaurant area were bustling and inviting, with a lovely real fire. We had dinner here and the service was very friendly and attentive. There was a good menu - I had a really nicely cooked chunky pork chop with apple and cheese sauce, which was delicious. Breakfast was excellent. It was a good size and the sausages and bacon were lovely. It would be hard to fault our stay - £70 for b&b was excellent value. if it wasn't for the fact we had appointments the next day we would have extended our stay. We will definitely try to come back for a walking holiday.

Stopped off for lunch while visiting the nearby stones. Very accommodating staff and good food at reasonable price. Recommend the steak and kidney pie. Portions plentiful and good quality food. Sat in restaurant room. Only downside was no evidence of them taking contact details from guests for Covid reasons yet had signs saying if any symptoms after visiting then please contact them so they can contact other guests - not sure how they'd carry that out without our contact details!

Friendly, cosy moorland inn - wish we could have stayed longer!

Once again visited the pub which has undergone renovation and modernisation since my last visit; the owners have improved greatly on the previous decor. Tastefully done throughout, the room was comfortable with en-suite shower etc. The extensive menu of food served is legendary throughout the area for its large proportions and simple 'English' fare. Pre-booking a table is a must. Staying at the hotel gets you a table reserved any time you want - simply nothing is 'too much trouble' for guests.

Very happy with my stay, would love to return.
